At time of voting.

And furthermore, how often did you vote in a matchup in which both of the candidates were games you played?
For me, it happened almost once.

For those who don't remember, the candidates were:
Alien: Isolation
Dark Souls II
Farcry 4
Super Smash Bros (3DS)
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Hearthstone
Destiny
Bayonetta 2
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Titanfall
Sunset Overdrive
The Wolf Among Us
Watch Dogs
Mario Kart 8
South Park: the Stick of Truth
Transistor

how it went: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tournaments/standings/20

Be honest. And then think of all the arguments people got into (myself included) when discussing why they knew which games were better.

Dark Souls II
Super Smash Bros
Hearthstone
Bayonetta 2
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Watch Dogs
Mario Kart 8

Got Transistor and The Wolf Among Us too but have yet to play them. When it came to voting I usually went in the direction of the Nintendo games as they stomp most things on there to me.

Let's see:
Dragon Age
Shadow of Mordor
South Park
Alien: Isolation
Hearthstone
and a wee bit of Smash Bros and TitanFall on someone else's console.

So basically, yeah. It was a shit year for Gamers and gaming as a whole.

Good thing I didn't vote.
Probably wiser.

I didn't vote in the final and semifinal rounds and felt cleaner for it. Every time I voted in a clash between a game I played and a competitor I hadn't (which was every time), I felt a little awful.

It's funny - I hear that from people every now and again, and am confused, because I don't think that. And then it occurred to me, "Oh, I have a Wii U."
A lot of those other games looked really great in the hype, though. Were they disappointing?

Dragon Age: Inquisition
Wolf Among Us
Transistor
Hearthstone
Mario Kart 8

And while they're all good games frankly I'm not really sure I'd give any of them game of the year. None of them really stood out as anything spectacular to me, if that makes any sense. Unlike some years where there will be one or two games I play that make me think 'This deserves to win awards'.

I see no Kirby Triple Deluxe on that list at all. 0/10 would not GoTY again!

OT: In all honesty, on that list only 3, and they are the ones that were on a Nintendo system. I am interested in Sunset Overdrive, but I'm not buying an Xbox One just for that one game and Microsoft's games tend to bore me really.

Farcry 4
Hearthstone
Destiny
Bayonetta 2
Mario Kart 8
Transistor

Played these and was underwhelmed by all of them except Bayonetta 2 which was just pure gaming bliss couldnt stop smiling when I was playing because of how fun it was havent had that in ages years probably. Farcry 4 was ok and Hearthstone is fine except I hated its simple mechanics and F2P system. As for Destiny, Mario Kart 8 and Transistor I kinda wish I had never played them and just spent my time doing something else. I played the WiiU smash version but not the 3DS one its er ok didnt make me want to continue playing after I had unlocked Duck Hunt Dog and all the stages.

I voted for Bayo 2 I think (if I voted at all) because its the most fun I have had out of a game in a long time and it does what it does very well. Also ofc as you can probably gather I did not think much of the other ones I played but I do want to get that south park game sometime.

Fun fact: that game is installed on my 3DS, but my gaming backlog is so long that I have yet to play it. The same is true with Bravely Default. And a few (many) other games.

I played absolutely none to show I'm not biased towards any of them.
I kid, I kid. Though I still didn't play any of these games.

I've played these 10.

Super Smash Bros (3DS)
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Titanfall
Sunset Overdrive
The Wolf Among Us
Watch Dogs
Mario Kart 8
South Park: the Stick of Truth
Transistor

And currently have 3 more
Alien: Isolation (borrowed from a friend, admittedly)
Dark Souls II
Bayonetta 2

So yeah, clashes happened quite a lot. When they did, I went with what I picked in my brackets.

[sub]Not that it helped much. D:[/sub]

I played a grand total of 0 games from the GOTY candidates last year.

None of them interested me and my free time has been taken up playing other, less popular niche titles this year, like Forza Horizon 2 and Grand Theft Auto V, which despite being obscure games from unheard of publishers, are still very good games (86 and 97 on Metacritic) with so much content and (re)playability that I've not even wanted or noticed the other Games of the Year.

I played

Dark Souls II
Super Smash Bros (3DS)
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Hearthstone
Bayonetta 2
Titanfall
The Wolf Among Us
Mario Kart 8
South Park: the Stick of Truth
Transistor

Lots of the match-ups were between games I played, though a good deal of them did not go how I would have liked :p

DS2, Bayonetta 2 and MK8 are the only games on that list I'd even consider putting on a personal GOTY list.

I voted for 4 but technically, I still haven't played Bayonetta 2...I played the demo, I own the game but, I have spent most of my time playing the original on my gamepad and even still, I'm not terribly far into the game. I only recently got South Park as well and but I'm sticking with the number 4 since Smash 3DS and Smash Wii U feel different enough to me...even if they didn't both qualify...

Anyway, out of the GotY contenders that I did play, I've put the most time into Smash by far. I played a lot of Mario Kart over the summer and was nice and burned out...up until the DLC started launching but I'm burned out again. Stick of Truth is the game I'm having the most fun with at the moment though. Looking at the list, odds are I'll pick up Wolf Among Us next unless Wii U-Watch_Dogs just drops its price like a brick which I'm sure will happen by the summer. A lot of the other games I'm just not going to touch or think about until I get my PS4...eventually...

Wait, wasn't Hyrule Warriors one of the games in the running? I played the Hell out of that...not as much as I played Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage but much more than any modern Warriors game.

I played DS2, DA:I and Transistor. I never voted. I didn't even know what was on the list till now. I've only played 3 on the list anyway so it would be less "best game" and more "which option did I play and kinda like".

Edit: well I did play some Titanfall on game time but I don't own it.

Only Dark Souls 2 and Wolf Among Us, though most of playing this year has been older games and mods or indie titles on Steam.

All of them.

No really, all of them.

I didn't buy all of them, but I had played all of them at some point last year.

Out of the list I can honestly say I got more enjoyment, both temporally and qualitatively, out of Titanfall than any of the others.

Would I pick it as 'Game of the Year'? Probably not, but it was still the one that entertained me the most.

But then, I'm not sure I'd pick any of the others either.
