Poll: How odd...

You know, I swear there weren't as many "unique" users on these forums (or at least, threads openly discussing weird things) in the past few years as there is now. I don't visit these forums all that often, but just by hopping on consecutively for three days I am rather astounded with what I see...

From people with animated dog fetishes, to people with other rather unsavoury personal desires confidently typing it all away in a thread. Now, I am not one to complain or throw hate around about what people like to do in their own private time but I truly do find it odd how in conjunction there are a large amount of users well under the age of 18 who are consistently active on here also. I am not expecting nor wishing the moderators to clean up or improve on some of the basic forum rules but - It really is quite surprising that such discussions are as relaxed as they are on here. Another thing that surprises me is that I have seen suspensions for mild coarse language and things like calling another user an "idiot", but nothing too firm on the levels of sexual discussion on here. You could argue that there isn't any reason to ban a user over such discussion, and I completely agree, so I should probably just get to the point:

I'll place a poll with this thread because I am curious as to how many users on here feel in any way irritated or confused about the rules when it comes to said discussions. Also, just for the record, I don't have any problems with the users who like the furry animals and all of that - yes I find it extremely odd, but they are still ordinary people. So try to avoid offensive name-calling and all of that if possible.

Discuss.

It doesn't really bother me, it takes all sorts to populate this blue space marble and if we were all free of fetishes, manias and other eccentricities the world (and this site) would be a boring place.

Well I think the pros outweigh the cons. I think some of the discussions here are great, its international for starters, its on anything from modern global issues to retro games to favourite foods, and learning trends and opinions on ideas is good, I probably read 20-30 pages of text a night on average over a week from reading Escapist discussions.

The moderators don't completely ignore weird sexual deviants. There was a lot of pedophilia talk a couple of months ago, then the mods started locking threads to shut people up because it was getting creepy.

Forum rule 1: Don't be a jerk.

The rest is less important. If you call another user an idiot, you are directly insulting them. If you swear like a sailor, about a random situation, you are not being jerk, just vulgar. If you openly discuss your... ehem... Then you are just being very very open.

It makes this forum more fun though XD

While there is a large number of under-18's on this site, it is meant to be 13+ so I see no reason not to discuss sexual things... whether we like it or not teenagers are going to be interested in that sort of thing anyway. I personally think that free-discussion should be allowed within reasonable limits (obviously no advocating illegal acts etc). The rules on this forum aren't that precise though, so it's generally down to the mods to decide whether they believe a thread or topic is appropiate or inappropiate.

some of the worst stuff could use their own section in the forum so the rest of us can steer clear.

you should be allowed the right to free speach I should be allowed the right to stay the hell away from you heh.

just so yknow by worst stuff I dont mean pedophiles/rapists/etc etc they should be banned.

I don't like discussing those sort of things, so I just stay out of the threads involving them.

Simple.

Exactly, I see a thread about sexualized Sonic the Hedgehog, I steer clear. They have the right to speak about whatever within reason. Besides, it is so much better than having 20 zombie apocalypse threads going on at any given moment, so this is much preferred.

Pretty much this. I mean, the threads about "weird" sexual fetishes are pretty much titled as obviously as can be allowed, which makes them easy to spot and avoid if you don't like them.

Also I'd wager this is just a trend we're going through at the moment, next month we'll be onto something different.
Plus it makes a change from all the bloody threads asking us about Rebecca Black and how she's single handedly destroying music because somebody auto-tuned the living hell out of her voice.

To be fair, if you“re a user on this site then you“ll probably have seen at least one ZP video where Yachtzee swears down the mic for five solid minutes (no disrespect, I love that man) so adult forum content is to be expected when a front page poster happens to be Yatchzee.

Most people between the age of 13 - 17 know of sex and other weird fetishes so I doubt any sort of blockade of it here will help stop the spread of the 'evil'. It's easy enough enough to avoid any 'problem' threads as well. If we ever did have to put restrictions on what threads people make then it might have to be a outright ban on Zombie Apocalypse threads.
