lets face it humans don't exactly have the best track record in the universe but we may not be the worst in terms of intelligence, self preservation, technology, etc. today's topic you ask: the human race. what will we be discussing specifically? will we be able to survive the hundred years? (please explain why or why not)

Don't think so. Between Climate Change, some very angry people out there, the ever-present existence of nuclear weapons, and of the potential lapses of sanity in leaders who are seeing their country decline does not look like it will produce a happy outcome.

Or maybe i've just been playing too much Fallout 3.

I think "Hundred" is a bit extreme. We won't last much longer, but it'll be longer than 100 before we're gone.
I chose maybe.

I don't think we are the most intelligent. I doubt the world would have so much pollution and so little ozone had humans never shown up. Would the sharks and whales have used fossil fuels and nuclear energy to destroy our ozone? Would the Buffalo and lions have made cars that emit toxic fumes into the breathing air? My guess is not. We claim that we are the most intelligent on the planet, yet we have dealt the most damage to it.

Honestly, I don't see humans lasting much longer. Maybe a few hundred more years until we start having fatal problems as a race.

But that's all my opinion, of course. I know we are taking steps to recover the damage we have done, I just don't think we will recover at the same rate at which we damage the planet. Stalling the inevitable, if you will. Not the brightest outlook, I know, but it's my outlook none the less. Sorry.

This is actually an interesting question, especially with as many people that are believing that 2012 is the end of the world. In my personal opinion, it could go either way. Humanity may not have the best track record but we've managed to survive for thousands of years so far. It all really depends on how we handle ourselves now.

Yes, I believe we'll make it far more than 100 years.

They haven't damaged the Earth because they are incapable of influencing the environment to the extent that humans can because they're unintelligent animals. They're incapable of caring the way that you, and I, and a number of other humans do.

I'm all for environmentalism but this misanthropy is trite nonsense. Humans are imperfect, but we're also the only species on Earth that is capable of the kind of abstract reasoning that produces intellectual and technological innovation. Language, philosophy, and science are all ours, for better or worse. Chimpanzees cannot split the atom, nor could they have held a debate with Socrates.

The fact that dolphins or whatever don't destroy the ozone layer doesn't reflect an inherent nobility, it means that they're not smart enough to do so.

How much longer humanity will survive, I don't know. 100 years seems overly-cynical to me, though. The world keeps changing and it's difficult to predict what our future will be.

Touché, good sir. You make a good point. I just feel that we have not used our higher intelligence as responsibly as we could have. But again, all my opinion. You may see it differently than I do.

I think, in the grand scheme of things, we're rather like a virus (good on you, Agent Smith). We've changed everything around us in impossible ways in an unbelievably short period of time while barely changing ourselves. But don't be mistaken; this is a compliment. This means that we are in a constant process of discovery and improvement.

The next 100 years will be a great age, and I don't just say that because I'm likely to see all of it. I love humanity while others slap it down; I hold respect for the rulers of the Earth, qualified (or not) as they may be. We are capable of the worst and best; but I believe we are, as a whole, good and trying to evoke good change in the world. I think that the current state of affairs gets in the way of that somewhat, but I believe a hundred years is a pittance in terms of what we can do as a species.

I believe that the Earth is our egg, and we are the creature within. It's our home, but also our cage and it won't last forever. Climate change and this horrific environmental destruction is merely the result of us growing too large for our egg. They're growing pains. If we can break the space barrier, I mean really break it, then the Space Age can begin. I believe we can do this. If we do... the time limit to our survival will expand so as to become nearly limitless. Baby steps, though. We can't even get along with our next-door neighbours right now.

tldr: Humans are cool. We will survive more than 100 years.

We definitely haven't. There is still unfortunately too much darkness in human nature for us to realize our full potential.

Humans are just like cockroaches, except smell worse. Can't kill them all, can't find where they all hide, and they scatter when you flip the lights on.

Quite simply because of basic human nature humans will last for alot more than the next hundred years! People are made to survive and you cant beat human nature....thats why i believe the whole cmmunist utopia would never work

Humanity, as in our species, yes.

If you are thinking of humanity as our society, our morals and our beliefs, the things we choose to define ourselves with right now, how we live our lives, then I would say it is almost certain that it won't survive another 100 years. I can accept that these things are always in flux, but flux doesn't accurately portray what's coming.

Better kill yourself quick then, traitor. You can catch yourself, can't you? The rest of us will make the best of our world and become a space-faring race while the worms eat you.

Well thanks for blowing our cover. Normally, when we make such statements, the humans just laugh and scoff at it like cynical BS, but you just go and rip that can of worms wide open, THANK YOU. Now we'll never finalize that spaceship because you blew the cover.

im not really sure i can....but because its a sunday and im drunk i shall try! A communist utopia can't work because it is human nature to be better than others, to dominate. In a the communist utopia everybody is equal, no government no police, nothing! It would also, if in theory everyone some how managed to get along, stiffle the human insticint to grow and evovle. Man need something to aspire to and that asperation is usually to top what ever someone else has already done. Oh and by the way this probably doesn't make any sense and i will regret it at some point in the near future. But if it does make sense yay for me and if not hopefully i will be able to come back at a later date and try to make some sober sense out of it

that makes some sense, but living in a communist utopia would be wayyyyyyyyyyyy too boring anyway (we need a little chaos now and then just to liven things up)

We will last. Humans refuse to kick the bucket. As a species we will continue to grow. Eventually we will likely make it into space as well. People say we don't evolve anymore and for the most part yeah, its true. Though there are still people who refuse to stop growing and becoming smarter. Physicists, chemists, biologists. They continue to change and grow and challenge the rules that bind our world.

The human race as a species will survive. Like others said our culture in itself will change. Our race as a whole though will not die. After three or four global disasters that our planet have we managed to hump or way back into the dominate species i have a hard time believing now were suddenly going to be wiped out.
