US would lose. Economically, China is much more valuable than the US, which would be replaced by the EU in world economics. Hence, everyone would side with China.
But the U.S. is still a major military super power which would make us an equally good ally to keep, also with the huge population in China disease is a major problem hindering their military. I think the U.S. would win.

The only real danger is the Economic consequences, and Nuclear War.
And gee, those sure AREN'T major factors.

I personally think China would win, but I could be wrong... I HOPE I'm wrong.

Interesting fact.Did you know it was a Scot that founded the US navy?
I don't really see how it's interesting that in a developing country that was basically all immigrants at the time the military was being established that an immigrant founded a branch of the military, mainly because immigrants founded all the branches.

A lot of Americans seem to be forgetting that at the moment.

Okay, lets say that the US and China for to war, who do you think would win? This question has a lot of factors that help decide the answer,

Who would ally with whom?

Could either economy hold up without the other?

Would nuclear arms get involved?

Is china's large army enough to compensate for their lack of a modern air force and navy?

What do the Escapists think?

Personally I think people give the Chinese military to much credit, compared to it's western counterparts, it is very ill equipped and trained. The Chinese Air Force and Navy are also next to non-factors compared with the US Air Force and Navy. The only real danger is the Economic consequences, and Nuclear War.
I think the US would win.Their airforce and navy would be crucial.

Captain John Paul Jones.

The most awesome name ever.

The real question is why America or China would think its a good idea to start a war right now.
They wouldn't. The very idea is laughable, even as a thought experiment. The two countries are just too interdependent (and common culture too against it) to ever fight each other.
I wouldn't use common culture as a good reference for a chance of a war. Iraq was one of the most western states in the Middle East before the invasion, and that did not not cause the US bombs to not strike their targets.

But, as an utterly absurd idea...it would end in a draw. There is no other way it could end. Neither side would use nuclear weapons, and conventional fighting would be limited. Invasions would be right out. The conflict also wouldn't last very long.
It depends too heavily on the circumstances, but I would say that, short of an official Chinese Invasion onto US territory, China would win.

It is a simple matter of political will. Sure, the Chinese losses would be catastrophic in comparison to the US armed forces, but in the end it will always come down to political will, and the US would likely back down well before the Chinese would.

A pointless war.

Too few chinese would reach american shores to crush her, no american advance could slaughter enough chinese to hold more than a beachhead.

Not that either army will ever bother to fight eachother in any real sense. Oh, they will flex their arms to eachother for sure, but at the end of the night they will just give eachother reach-arounds before bed.

I should have specified what I meant by "common culture," I suppose. Not that we share many cultural inclinations in common (that'd be an absurd claim), but that neither country is, ultimately, much in favor of open war with another major power. Liberal Democracy vs. Sham Democracy or not, people in either country are gonna be questioning their government very strongly if anything came to pass...and so would most of the government.

Political will is a bad thing to bring up, since it's rather inconceivable just what sort of will would get the countries to fight in the first place. And just what sort of political will would be shown by the rest of the world towards the whole matter.

I'm sorry, this idea is just so incredibly improbable that it's rather impossible to figure out what would happen even as a hypothetical.

The Chinese has a huge army, although extremely untrained and futile in comparison to modern day US troops, but I've actually heard that marines these days arent all that well off in the training scheme of things. And i've heard that from ex-marines. But yes nuclear arms would definately be involved, although I think in that case we'd all be screwed.
USA would get the following allies:
Australia
Japan
Spain
United Kingdom
and some smaller contries

China would get:
Germany
Russia
India
France

I think overall the Yanks would win, although I have a huge feeling that The Chinese aren't the type to go down by themselves.
I.e: send off everylast one of their nukes as they die.
lol. lol indeed.
Wait...why are you assuming any country would join either side of such a war? What possible motivation could they have for involving themselves in a destructive conflict that not only goes completely against the cultures of said countries, but likely doesn't involve them at all, and quite probably goes against international law?
