As I sit here in my room I look around and see a table crowded with empty soda cans, paper, game cases and my 3 Xbox's none of which work right. First there's the Halo3 special edition Xbox360 bought from target for X-mas two years ago in which the disk drive has suddenly decided not to work any more, still plays downloaded stuff (thank the gaming gods for Games on Demand) Then next to it there's a three year old arcade version which must be beatin severely in order for it to work and I mean beatin. Every time I want to play a disk I must slam it off the table swear at it and punch with differing technics for about a half hour (the metal casing underneath is dented beyond repair! And the third one set aside in it's own little naughty corner is a 6 month old arcade thats decided to stop showing pictures thats it just stop sending images to the TV.

(sigh) Ok the point is I want to hear your stories of broken gaming equipment whatever it maybe. Oh and to help me decided if I should continue with Xbox move on to PS3 or say @&%! it all and get a nice computer with WoW

You are not alone in this matter. Most of my brother's old consoles require at least a smack and often a combination of punches and verbal assaults to get it working. His 4 NES's especially (none work often but all 4 work occasionally). My mom also has a really busted early 80's television set (complete with wood paneling!) that demands a crack upside the skull whenever it gets drunk. Y'know, when it goes all shaky (well, you probably don't know. This site is chock full of people younger than me and I wasn't even born until after the crappy TV era).

A desktop is always better. Unless you get virus' on it. Then it becomes more garbage than the 360s you've got. Just have a rubber on it and i'tll be fine though.

I've played the ever living hell out of my ps3 for the last three years, never had a glitch. Not a single crash. They seem much more reliable than the 360.

It's only £70 to send a 360 off to be fixed, you know. Buying a new one whenever it breaks is extremely inadvisable.

You're definitely not alone in that regard. Pretty much ever piece of electronics I have has had a treatment of "tough love" in order to work at some time or another. Though next thing I'd say you do is.. Continue. Hey it's free.

XBox360 is such a poorly made system. I'm not surprised you need to threaten it with violence to make it work. When mine got the RROD I threatened it with violence as well... and by threatened I mean hammered.

Then I sold all my XBox360 stuff and got a PS3.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had a system I own crap out on me. ps1, ps2, ps3, xbox, xbox360, never had an issue with any of them. No crashing, no overheating, no rrod, nothing. And it not like I just sit there and look at them. There are probably as many days in the last 20 years that I've picked up a controller then ones I haven't. Do people just not take care of their shit?

My PC has been pretty reliable although a few BSODs recently.

PS3 only ever had like one major problem and that...fixed itself somehow :S

This is why one plays on one's Gameboy. Those things are frikkin' indestructible I swear.

You actually managed to that out of a Sony console? Holy PI! I applaud you on your choice. My friend's PS2 was dropped off a roof, thrown into a pool and stuffed with chocolate pudding and still *works*. Sort of, kind of, but it was always buggy.

Console abuse must stop. Every year, thousands of xboxs, playstations and nintentos are abused this way. We don't care about the nintendos, but for just £3 a month you can provide a console with a good home and a loving player who will never shout at it or strain its disk drive. It will recieve a low voltage, constant power supply and will be cleaned regularly to ensure a long, happy life. We ensure only the highest quality games are played on our consoles, with regular hard drive reformats and defragmentations where applicable to ensure the highest possible health. We never throw a working console away, even if it appears scratched and has seen better days; we know what really matters is on the inside.

On topic: I've got an old xbox and I've got to boot up down the street and back to make it start up. Metaphorically speaking.

gotta love the PS3. never rrod'd, don't have to sell my soul for online play and the battery for the controller is built in so you don't have to scoure the house for double As. although, Fable 2 kiks ass, and dead rising, and gears... both. both is good.

As I posted in another topic, I went apeshit on my third 360 when it died, and then bought a PS3 soon after
