I love GTA, I tend to really enjoy everything Rockstar does. However I hate westerns. I can safely say that every single western related thing that people have told me to give a chance I have hated. That being said, I LOVE GTA, and the game play in RD:R looks to be amazing.

So, what do you think. Could RD:R's game play and look be so good to make me overlook the setting? Or is it just going to be Grand Theft Horse?

There isn't an option for those of us who enjoy westerns and want to get RD:R. That being said I want to get it.

You may be able to overcome it if you really like GTA, but it seems like it is a very "Western" game. If you dislike westerns as much as you say you do, it'll probably be too unbearable for you.

I suggest giving it a rent first, to see if it is tolerable. Make you next decision from there.

From the sounds of it, you've answered your own question: you'll like the gameplay but not the setting.

I severely disprove of this line of thinking. It's possible to dislike a certain genre or stereotype and still like things within it and nobody will be able to tell you but yourself.

I hate prison movies but love the Shawshank Redemption with a passion.

You just need to play it like any other game and see for yourself. Yes, it's a western game, and the setting will mostly work for people who love it. However, when it comes to gameplay, no one but yourself can answer this question.

You should definitely rent it or borrow it from someone first to see if you could get past the setting, which seems so deep seeded into the gameplay that it would probably be hard for someone who doesn't like the setting to get past it, but it never hurts to try something.

That being said, I like a lot of western themes, mainly because growing up I was exposed to a lot of it and I'm really excited to get my hands on RDR.

It looks awesome, and knowing Rockstar's quality, I'm sure you will be able to overcome it.

Also, seriously, how can you hate westerners?
