Exactly what it says in the title.

We aren't talking a HD remake though, well if you want that then yeah feel free to say, but I mean a complete overhall - new graphics, voice actors if you so please, new areas, utilizing more modern technology and so on. So a complete work over to put it one way.

Of course there still has to be a way of recognising the original IP and remain faithful to the original content but this doesn't mean that it has to be 100% like the original.

Examples I suppose would include Halo and REmake.

If I could pick one I would go for Eternal Darkness, simply because of the new ways they could mess with you in terms of no longer having technoligical limitations. A way of making the Xbox look like it has red ringed would be awesome and probably would scare gamers a hell of a lot more than any jump moment.

So what would you pick?

I like remakes as in TW: Medieval 2.
I dislike remakes as in Jagged Alliance: Back In Action.

All in all, it depends on how faithful the remake is in regards to story, gameplay and mechanics of the original.

Turn Streets of Rage into a full 3D open world fighting game.

Remake Haze without the shitty storyline. And have the fact you're taking chemical enhancements mean more to the gameplay. Think of it in terms of if plasmids were a little more grounded in reality. Strenght would let you carry more stuff, speed lets you reload faster ect.

Starfox Adventures. Give me a plaster with fluid third person shooter controls, and a Zelda style find more weapons deal. Have flying and tank sections thrown in.

In before Mass Effect 3 remake :p
I'd like to see left 4 dead 2 remade actually, so it'll be more than just L4D but with more zombies and melee weapons. Maybe add some vehicles (escaping from zombies on a chopper perhaps?) or simply more moody environments. Just feel like it could have been done better.

Final Fantasy 6 in the same style as the FF4 remake. Only make it so that its actually avaliable, not like the other games where you have to pay through the nose to get a copy off amazon, and which are nigh on impossible to find elsewhere. As of the moment, Devil Survivor 1 is upwards of £40 on amazon, and the only copy of FF6 Advance I've seen on there was something like £60.

I absolutely adore that game. I was meh about all the other starfox games (not a great fan of space shooters) but Adventures was amazing. A remake for the wii u would be enough to make me buy one, that and Pikmin 3.

Planescape torment remake!

Mostly just so I can actually play it on my PC.
THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS SOOOOOOO MUCH THIS! Seriously, amazing story line, if they had just waited for better gameplay advancements this would have been the best game ever. Also, if you are having an issue running it, check out GoG, they pretty much have Planescape made so it can run on everything.

While I would generally prefer new titles, the idea of a remake isn't necessarily a bad one if it's done well and done with an eye to improvement instead of just being a cash in on something popular.

As for my personal dream remake, it would be a remake of Red Ninja. The concept of the game was already excellent. The character design was a;ready great. The story was already interesting and well crafted. The execition, however, was lacking in both gameplay and visuals. It's the sort of game that deserves a remake far more than just reskinning something that was already done very well the first time.

Emperor of the Fading Suns.

What a deep, rich story, and the graphics that you could do nowadays would be just epic. Also, the AI wouldn't be so broken, and the politics would be really fun.

It was a bit like Civiliation spread across like 300 planets with a really well developed Lore.

I've said it before and I'll say it again SMT1/2 with Strange Journey's map system, some ick new graphics and make things a little more user friendly(I.E knock down the encounter rate and drop needing mag to summon demons).

They just need to make a Streets of Rage 4! That would be too awesome though... not sure if it could ever happen.

I don't really have anything against remakes in general. However, I think they're really hard to get right, and unfortunately it seems that developers/publishers don't share that opinion and don't put in too much effort.

The problem is that your audience consists almost entirely of fans of the game you're remaking. For every change you're going to make, there will be fans who think you just ruined what made the game special. So you probably shouldn't change too much. But if you do that, people might feel that it isn't worth getting the remake and might accuse you of money grabbing.

I think the best way is to start simple and overhaul the graphics, voice acting and music (where necessary). Maybe change some of the interface and controls to remove some tedium. However, you should already be careful here. For instance, saying you're remaking (say) Baldur's Gate and then putting in the "more fluent" Dragon Age 2 combat system is bound to fail. Adding in mechanics from sequels might be a good idea though. It might be smart to look up old forum discussions on what players (dis)liked and wished for.

Then, when you've done all that, add some content. Leave the original story alone, but either make some "background story" playable, add another campaign, or continue a little after the original game left off.

Maybe that doesn't technically qualify as (just) a remake, but I don't care. This is how it should be done.

I would like a remake of Little Big Adventure 2... I loved that game, and it would be an awesome world to return too... not sure how the characters would work... most of the races were so simply done, it would look odd... but I would still like to see it!

Maybe go for cutsey cell shaded?

Also, the mechanics for the magic ball would be interesting! A lot could be done there!

Klonoa.
Shut up the Wii remake didn't count, didn't do justice and failed.
I'd also put it in the hands of That Game Company, I feel they would be up to the job.
Ether this or Medievil 2.

Either Millenia Altered Destinies or Shadows over Mystara. Or the original Fallout games. No wait I already decided, Wing Commander.

It's tough there are so many old games that could incredible with a fusion of modern technology with a mix of old and new design sensibilities.

Resident Evil 2.

It would basically be like Revelations, all the old RElments, but with the over-the-shoulder view of RE4, 5, and 6.
