Poll: IGN is dead to me

When you see this list of games, you most likely think "this is a list of some of the best games ever made (Don't bother arguing that a game doesn't belong there, that isn't the point)

What would your first reaction be if I threw onto that list, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX
According to IGN, I would be applauded.

When I load up my computor and look for gaming news, I jump to 4 sites. Escapist, Gameinformer, Kotaku and IGN. I have come to expect the most up to date and accurate news and reviews. I am now regretfully announcing that I have to pull IGN from that list. They gave the new XBLA pac-man game a 10

A perfect 10

When I see a 10, I jump to metacritic and if that number isn't above 97, the giver of the 10 is in serious trouble. 10s are reserved for the best of the best, on the singular page of the history books in a hundred years that mentions video games as a sector of pop culture, these are the games whose pictures will be there.

I don't know what you think, but a random Pac Man re-release, seriously!

Considering this is an XBLA game I honestly wouldn't loose too much sleep over it.
Odds are the score is supposed to be relative to other arcade type games and not to gaming as a whole. The problem is that most arcade games really can't compare to other games. I mean I doubt that anyone who had a choice would pick any of the arcade games over a full AAA title.

The quality of a game is not determined by the amount of money poured into it. Maybe it's worth a 10 in regards to XBLA games? Regardless, I don't put much stock into a single review anyway.

I wouldn't stop going to a site over a single review, but the fact that IGN was one of your trusted reviewers confuses me. Also, I find that XBLA reviews take value for money into account. A game can be good but not great, but if there's $60 worth of content from a $10 game that could increase the score a great deal.

I see two problems here. One, you ever went to IGN in the first place. Their reviews are crap, their news is often wrong (most recently, I've been told that everyone gets into the LBP2 beta on December 21st from someone that visited IGN. Wrong IGN, everyone gets access to an LBP2 DEMO on December 22nd). Two, you care too much about pointless review scores.

I doubt it. By assuming different ratings makes different games better than other incomparable games you're like the "OH MY GOD YOU CAN'T RATE A GAME A 10 YOU MADMAN" people.

The pacman remake was a practically perfect remake according to IGN.

Whereas there were noticable room for improvement in those other games.

Its not a hard concept.
