I am going to review the websites IGN, Gametrailers, Destructoid and then The Escapist.
IGN is a site I feel has poorly aged. In it's youth it has been a place for interesting well constructed reviews and news but now it has become a hodgepodge of advertising and frankly, poor writing. Someone wrote an article claiming Metroid Prime was the "Citizen Cane of games." Reviews have become stale and emotionless with the division of a game's qualities into sections PRESENTATION, GAMEPLAY, VERDICT etc. Even worse they fail to tell the reader what they want to know. The Splinter Cell Conviction review said bugger all about the QUALITY of the narrative, only saying it looked flashy. There is little variety in the opinions of the writers and very little in the way of interesting discussions of the medium. IGN has shriveled into a lackluster site for gaming news and reviews.
So tell me what YOU think about the site

Yeah...

Grammar Nazi aside, I find the site to be, well, kind of poor. Mainly for the reasons you listed above. All the reviews are bland, never give us what we want to know, ect.

Plus they spoiled the story of No More Heroes 2 for me. So yeah, I hate them.

I like reviews split up into sections, it makes them easier to understand.

Review is too short and feels like more of a rant.

I don't go on IGN myself, I get my news here.

Eh, IGN's okay. They give decent reviews, and they introduced me to the Fatales' debut album Pretty in Pixels (the album sadly doesn't seem to be available anymore). Their review scores are the same 7-9.8 bullshit as everyone else, but if you compare the actual content of modern reviews to the Gamecube-era writing on the site, it's much improved.

They're not my go-to site for reviews anymore, but if I'm on the fence about a game, comic, or album, I do occasionally peek at IGN.

I'm mostly a Destructoid guy myself.

Edit: Oh, wow, I just wondered "does Matt Casamassina still write for IGN," googled up his blog, and found out that he left a week ago. Eerie.

they're ok in my book, I like that they do have longer reviews (the oblivion one is 5 pages) though sometimes the content in the reviews is lacking. I go there every once in a while I do prefer here much more though.
