When I first joined the Escapist--back long ago in the distant days of mid summer--I changed avatars several times before settling on:

Then came election season and I became comfortable with The Great Old One:

Now I'm edging back to my favorite theme of wicked and/or evil Bunny Avatars:

But the cost of having a new avatar, more often than not, is not being recognitized by the Community. How many here noted or commented when Fappy changed his long used Mao Avatar? His current one is a Mao that looks like it's dying of a fever...pity.

I've realized that I learn others' names only after I become redundantly familiar with their Avatars. Often I'll fail to recognize someone who's changed their Avatar for quite some time.

When I learn to make gifs I may settle down, but maybe not.

Do you play around with your Avatars (so to speak) or do you try to settle on one for the Recognition Factor?

Holy shit, I recognize both of your old avatars haha:( y u change?!
The spider's cute.

Nah I've changed my avatar once a year since I've been here. I dunno, I understand why people wont because of factors like that, but honestly, I doubt anyone around here recognizes me anyway.

So meh:'(.

I play around with mine, although Elevator Guy is gonna be around for quite a while yet.
I don't really care about the recognition factor of avatars, I'd rather people recognise me as "That guy who does reviews sometimes."

But no one does. :p

You recognized me? Fame at last!

Someone once commented that they saw my spider and thought it was a frog. After studying it for a minute I saw what he meant, and then couldn't stop seeing it!

As for changing to my "bunny motif" that's an old affectation for me. I was looking through Google Images for fun, ran across an "Evil Bunny" picture and got the bug to change avatars again.

I don't know if I'll stay with my Punisher Bunny avatar I'm using right now.

I've changed my avatar three times since 2009, but all have been variations (improvements) on this one... So no, I haven't really changed my avatar. I like this one too much.

I'm not allowed to change mine.

I've been told that if that were ever to happen, there would be rioting in the streets.

People would die.

Do you want people to die?

I don't.

People know me well enough regardless of avatar.

I change it too often nowadays to be associated with it, and if an avatar is what I'm to be known for, it's not worth it anyway. ;p

No, I drew it. It's supposed to be a Dragon with some Eastern influence.
Quite a few people think it's some cat-like creature. Which is fine I guess. I like cats.

I'm pretty sure as long as it stays Amaterasu related, we can keep the death toll to a minimum.

Maybe...

I have a compromise with my avatar, mine as always based on the same theme (Laughing Skull Face) to keep recognition but I alter the background and accessories a couple times a month on average if you include seasonal / festive variations.

I am recognizable because I usually have a certain character as my avatar, but now is a different story.
No kidding!

I recognize you, Tizzy, because you've got a catchy name. Plus the bunny motif.

Do you remember which of your previous avatars was my all time favorite? I wasn't subtle about my liking it and I'd welcome you to bring it back (Hmmmm, perhaps so I could use it?).

I've only changed mine a couple of times, but no one knows me anyway. It's not really a big deal when you've been one of those invisible people all your life.

I like your gif avatar! Big time! That's one of the funniest ones I've ever run into, especially with the delays I get everytime I change mine out.

I do like to think I'm recognised for my stunning wit, and fantastic repertoire with everyone on the forums, but yeah, I'm pretty much the guy with the Troy eye avatar now. Which is fine, because I love the GIF =P

I only change mine to variants of my avatar so that it feels fresh without people forgetting who I am. I've also been told by people that I have an awesome avatar so I'd rather not lose it.

Ah thanks, I quite like it myself. It pretty much sums up how the internet & I get along, it rarely works properly & when I poke it to make it work it usually bites me in the ass. Anyway I try to remember people by name, but a unique avatar does make it easier.

Oh & I personally like the standing evil bunny with red eyes.
