What the title says. I have enough money to get two games with it. I've decided one will be Hyperdimension Neptunia. I'm torn on the other one. I want a good JRPG (Heck, it is why I'm getting the console). I love NIS and Atlus. Disgaea 3, Valkyria Chronicles, and Demon's Souls are at the top of my list but any insight would be helpful.

EDIT: It is looking like Demon's Souls. Thank you for all of the input. I'm going to get all of the ones listed eventually, but the PS3 and the two games kill my disposable income for a few months. These two will have to hold me over.

I recommend Demon's Souls. It doesn't feel very JRPG-ish, but it's fun. Hell, I played it from yesterday afternoon to 5:11 this morning nonstop.

I am hesitant about it. I am disabled and have trouble with games that have real time combat (partially why I love turn-based RPGs) and I've heard it is straight up brutal. I love Atlus but I'm not sure I can play it that well, thus my indecision.

Get valk chronicles, it puts a damn nice spin on traditional turn based combat with it's free movement. Story isn't too bad either.

It was made by From Software and published by Atlus in America. Still a really good game though. And it's not hard if you know what you're doing. The only way you'll have a lot of trouble is if you try to Rambo every level. If you like Zelda games, From Software also made 3D Dot Game Heroes, which is pretty good in my opinion.

Not that it's a JRPG, but you should check out Flower. Definitely one of the best games on PSN.

For me it would be a tie between Demon's Soul's and Valkyria Chronicles. If I absolutely had to choose I would probably go with Demon's Soul's. Incidentally I was thinking of getting Disgaea 3 and Cross Edge, but still haven't picked them up.

Another JRPG you might want to have a look at is Agarest: Generations of War (or Record of Agarest War in the US). I'm not sure but in the US
I think its only available through the PSN. I haven't played it but have heard good things.

This is the least-suggestive piece of gameplay footage I could find.

Demon's Souls, as it is the LEAST JRPG game there is.

Definitely Demon's Souls. It's really fun!

It's can be pretty difficult at the beginning, but once you get a hang of it, it's not that difficult.

Demon's Souls for now. Valkyria Chronicles second.

And then just wait for Disgaea 4.

Have it on the 360. I'm thinking exclusives. It is a good SRPG, though.

Of the ones that you've posted, I would say Disgaea 3. I was going to recommend Demon's Souls, but you've brought up other factors that would make Demon's Souls even more punishingly difficult and frustrating than what it already is.

...also, Disgaea is sort of awesome.

I'll keep looking around for other exclusives that you might enjoy though.

EDIT: Ok, so I've just been informed that Valkyria Chronicles is wonderful, so it turns out that, not only am I inhumanly obnoxious, but completely useless as well.

I would have said Demon's Souls, because I got and it's okay, but Valkyria Chronicles has to win.

Out of the ones listed, get Demon's Souls. But really consider getting Resonance of Fate if you don't have it already. These are the only JRPGs on the PS3 I like. However, my sister liked Valkyria and Disgaea, so to each their own.

If you like playing other games I recommend these exclusives:
inFamous
MGS4
Uncharted 1 & 2 (really, these games are MUST HAVES)
Heavy Rain
Little Big Planet (I haven't played the second one, but I hear it's LEGENDARY)
Siren Blood Curse
Warhawk (it's multiplayer only though)
Killzone 2 (if you're really story-heavy though, you'll despise this game)

While it is real-time combat, Devil May Cry it isn't. It is not a twitch-based uber-slaughterthon (not that there's anything wrong with twitch-based uberslaughterthons).

It's far more focused on timing and finding enemy weaknesses as opposed to taking on multiple foes at once with an arsenal made of crystalized testosterone. Hell, it's pretty much designed for one-on-one combat, though there are times when fighting a few enemies at once is just going to happen. But hey, that's what the BFSs are for (I refer to my main weapon as the Pyramid Head Special for a reason).

Yes it can be brutal, and it is not entirely above the cheap death, but it is a very rewarding experience overall. If you're really skeptical about it, try to find a way to rent it, or get it used from Gamestop and take it back for a full refund if it isn't for you.

if you want a good JRPG, i suggest Star Ocean: The Last Hope, not only are the enviroment huge, the trophies require a hell lot of work mainly because of a Character's Battle Trophies, if your not interested in getting trophies, then remember that character stats seems to be 9999 for attributes, 99999 for health (not sure if it's the same for MP) and max level is 200, 255 if you get all 100 of a character's battle trophies (as getting them all removes the level 200 cap to allow to to get 55 more level), plus after you beaten the game there's 2 more dungeons left to explore

otherwise you could get Final Fantasy XIII, beat it and wait till Christmas for Final Fantasy XIII-2, Square has already said they're fixing up some of the problem from the previous game, hopefully that means for freedom in the game and in battle and no more of the "Game Over when the leader dies" crap, you could try and read up on the story from the net but nothing beat seeing it for yourself

Definitely Demon's Souls, it's an excellent (and punishing) game. Tons of replay value! Disgaea 3 is good for a laugh but DS definitely has it beat in my book.

@Memor-X: Star Ocean, seriously? Maybe if you're like a wee little kid, but man I really disliked that game. The way everyone speaks in that game makes me want to punch kittens. To each their own as they say.

If youre at all interested in Trinity Universe, id reccomend taking a look at Hyperdimension Neptunia. Its an Idea Factory/Compile Hearts game (same people who made Records of Agarest War).

I'd say get the Sly Cooper Collection.

Not too up to date on modern JRPG's, so yeah.

Get the Sly Collection. Just do it.
