Poll: In what time period should Assassin's Creed 3 be set in?

Since Revelations was teased, and we're playing with Ezio for the last time, I was wondering what the Escapist thought would be cool for the new setting.

I think that a steampunk Victorian England could be really cool. The Templars could be building airships and the like.

If I'm being cynical, though, I would like the Animus to be able to warp the space time continuum and predict the lives of Desmond's descendants and have some kind of space thing.

EDIT: I know that Ubi are wanting to finish the Desmond story, but lets face it: with a series as popular as AC, they would be silly not to continue it for a bit longer. It could be disastrous, but as long as the games are good, they can keep on making them.

IN TEH FUTURE!!!11!one!!!

Seriously the future would be awesome, it could be like Deus Ex but with a much bigger stealth focus. It could also have sort of a Kill Bill vibe where everyone fights with swords even though its the future.

I picked the future, because that was the time period that Desmond was in, and I seriously want this series to make some kind of sense and this is what it's all been building upto.

Apparently, it's going to be a Desmond-centric installment... I think.

Anyway, seeing as how most of the targets were historical figures and most died around the times portrayed, it'd have to be one that had a swathe of political figures killed in quick succession. I'm thinking Rome (transition from Republic to Empire being the best era).

However, seeing as how there's a sort of chronological progression (Crusades, Renaissance, modern), the main period with a great deal of political upheaval is pre-WWI, and completely fictionalise the feats of Danilo Ilic, or rather, one of his underlings. That'd be kinda funky.

EDIT:

Holy shit... good point, but not enough viable assassination targets, I don't think.

Personally, the Aztecs era..

Also, how could it be set in Steampunk London? That never actually happened. The Animus isn't a time machine or alternate universe machine.

I don't think that'd be an issue, practically everyone involved ended up dead, and the number of different sides and such would allow the whole Templar/Assassin conspiracy easy to assign to factions.

OT: VICTORIAN LONDON.

It'd give a great opportunity for some truly different art direction, and it would be fucking amazing in general.

the future and finding out that ac1 2 brother hood etc were all some guy in the future in a future animus reliving the desmonds memoeries. and in the future the technology looks like the garden of eden. like it goes full circle. high tech garden of eden -> war -> human history -> high tech garden of eden in the future -> war

that doesnt make sense much but im half distracted by tv.

does the game have to remain being based on assassinations. why not a modern era game where your more a spy than a assassin.

Just thinking about it now... could probably act as an English agent, at first, picking off politically difficult elements in French government just as the revolution gains steam. There're probably quite a few ways that could pan out, story wise.

And think of the architecture: Paris, Versailles, Hall of Mirrors, that would be some sweet set design.

It didn't OFFICIALLY happen *wink wink*

As for the future, I was thinking more along the lines of in space and crazy robots, like:

We keep getting bits of the future with Desmond, but I don't want the bulk of the game to be people running around with lazer guns (or the usual stereotypical views of the future than people seem to have) I went with Baroque period, but russian revolution (like the comic Assassin's Creed: The Fall) would be good!

Ninjas.

That is all.

In all honesty, I would like to see a 50/50 split between Desmond and a historical character.

I would love to see Victorian England, but off the top of my head I can't think of a great number of assassinations that occurred then...but I guess characters can be made up - but it's always more fun when they were real.

None of those: the early 19th Century during the industrial revolution. Globe-hopping between London, America, Europe and China... would be goddamn awesome!
