[HEADING=1]Question: Is Die Hard a CHRISTMAS MOVIE???[/HEADING]
[hr]

OK, so I recently read this article on cracked.com. You don't have to read it, but I recommend you skim it at least.

5 Reasons Die Hard Is The Best Christmas Movie Ever Made [http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-reasons-die-hard-is-the-best-christmas-movie-ever-made/]

It makes a good point, but Die Hard? A CHRISTMAS MOVIE???

[HEADING=3]And for all you clueless people out there:[/HEADING]

It's not exactly "baby Jesus" material.

However, the movie IS set during Christmas, and it does have SOME holiday elements (as mentioned in the article.)[hr]

So what do you think? Do you think Die Hard is a Christmas movie?

I'll add it to my watch list. Next to every other Christmas movie I am mandated to watch by tradition, and Christmas Vacation.

Which is a good thing as Christmas is actually Saturnalia or Sol Invictus which represents the feast day to get you through the winter. Christianity "borrowed" it and then chucked out the Pagan significance around about. However, now the wheel has turned full circle with Capitalism trying to chuck all the Christian bits out.

Anyway, yes it is. The original Christmas Movies (Sound of Music/The Great Escape/Jimmy Bond) all feature Nazis, Ludicrous plots, instantly recognizable scenes and Fridge Logic [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FridgeLogic].

Therefore, my vote is firmly in the Xmas camp. Yippee Ki Ay, muddy funsters!

I know about Christmas' pagan roots. I was just referring to Christmas movies, not the holiday itself.

It's good, on every Christmas pretty much, but it's definitely not a classic Christmas film. The parts are there, as pointed out by the article, but it's not really a Christmas film. Then again, who WATCHES TV at Christmas? A lot of us might have it on, but it's, in my mums household, on in the background or hosting my PS3's scart connection and playing my new game or DVD or Blu-ray, I tend to save the blu-ray's until I'm home so I can watch them first in HD!

Hell yes. I watched it last year on Christmas Eve for just that reason (with some roomies). One of our better drinking games was taking a shot every time someone fires off a round. We later added "or dies" in there, to see who could hold their liquor better.

The hardcore round was the addition of "or injured". The girls decided it'd be easier to drink whenever they saw a woman with a perm (true story).

Yes it is. What do you want from a Christmas Movie? This movie has self-sacrifice, love (at the end), and good over coming evil (even for just a short time). What is so different from those other "Christmas Movies"?

With respect...yippy-ki-yay!

Hey, it happened during Christmas, so it is a Christmas movie.

(Incidentally, shouldn't you be asking this about Death Race, when the DVD was released for the holidays?)

Yes.

It's my second favourite Christmas movie, actually, behind the Snowman.

Every Christmas I visit my parents, and me and my dad watch Die Hard. It's a goddamn institution.

Fact - more families of people I know watch Die Hard at Christmas than a form of A Christmas Carol.

I watch both - Die Hard, a Muppet's Christmas Carol and an exchange of small gifts before going to bed are the three traditions in our house.

of course, you can see Christmas objects, it set at Christmas, and it teaches about family (kinda) and that by giving you shall receive a merry Christmas
