The question just popped into my head at work today. Is English your first or second language? I know that we have a lot of European members, but I was curious what percent of the population are native English speakers.

Second, my first is Russian.
And my guess is that there are about twice as many people with English as their first language than there are people with English as their second language here. Let's see how wrong my guess is :D

English is my first language. As well as being the only one I know. I've tried to learn others but I don't have the commitment.

I was born and grew up in America, but my parents taught me Polish first, though once I entered school I forgot most of Polish and English became my primary language. Though now I'm in Poland and have to relearn Polish for school.../facepalm.

English is my first language, though I don't really have a second language. I know some Hebrew and Arabic, though most of those are curse words, and I know some Spanish as well.

Spanish is my first language but I think in english. Its the same for most of my friends, we have hispanic parents and live in miami. however schools and the majority of our (I mean what we deal with one a daily basis) are in english and so that what we talk and think in.

I do know poutarguese and I know just enough italian and french to sound like a toddler.

It would be better to ask if it is one's first language or not, rather than just their second. I know quite a few people who know it as their third, fourth, fifth...ninth even.

English is my first language, but I know a bit of German and a little Spanish. Having English as a first language makes it difficult to learn new languages.

It's my first language. Second is a smattering of French and third is going to be Japanese.

Cool, there's an "other" option.

I mean, I guess it's my first. But it's tied for first. I was brought up speaking English and Swiss-German. I spoke Swiss-German at home, and English at school/with other people. It's still like that, actually.

Neither. It's the fourth language I learnt but probably my third best now I've spoken it for a while.

Technically it's my second language. Cantonese is my first language but I speak English better then I do Cantonese these days, so I really don't know if it still counts as "second language".

English is my FIFTH language, directly after cussing, mock-swedish, lewd gestures, and pig-latin.
