I did play the 10-day free trial and quite enjoyed it, but is it worth buying (cheaply) now, seeing as it's F2P and all? For example, does it still get updated from time to time, and are the servers busy?

Well it is free, so I see no reason why you can't just download it and test it yourself.

I found it totally awesome when I played it (had to stop due to PC death and replacement with shitty laptop) and if it's F2P now, give it a shot. won't cost you anything after all.

They already announced another ubdate at the end of november and talks of a new expantion pack so i think its safe to say there planning some content for the future. Dunno about the long run tho. But hopefully for another year or so atleast.

Oh right, I thought you had to pay for the game but not pay monthly, like Guild Wars. Guess it cant hurt then. Out of interest does anyone know which EU servers are the best, if there's any difference between them?

What do you mean buy it? You just download it, make an account (or use your previous trial account) and play.

It's free; only certain items and content costs money.

Urrgh, I tried it, and hated it.
But hey, your choice. Give it another try and think about it some more.

You can still pay a monthly fee to get access to all the content aswell as store points each month.
On free to play you dont have access to all area's. The extra ones you need to buy the quest packs with store points. You do however earn store points as you complete things in game. Most items on the store can be gotten in game in anycase.

I'll copy paste what i posted in the mmorpg recommendation thread...

I'd recommend LOTRO because it is a very well made gaming experience but keep in mine that after lvl 25 you don't receive any more quests unless you use turbine points (item shop currency) to buy the quest lines. Yeah you could do the instance-like skirmishes all day to level to the cap...but it's hella boring.

Other things aren't available to F2P's, like selling on the auction house, stat slots, extra storage space...etc
It's an excellent F2P model in that it allows you to experience up to the first instance in the game but doesn't allow people who don't pay for the game to play it without a serious handicap.
It has the best crafting system I have ever seen...in which it is actually very useful and profitable.

The only way to gain turbine points in game is to complete challenges...usually 5 or 10 points per challenge. I was able to get a horse by lvl 20ish. SO I guess you could grind out new characters to rack up points...as once you buy a quest string it stays with that account, but that would take ages.

The cheapest and best option is to buy the Mines of Moira collector's edition...it comes with 500 turbine points and a month of subscription...meaning you can do any quest for a month. It's only like $15 bucks now adays.
