In Extra Credit's episode of the future in MMOs I was surprised that they did not mention MW2, M M O means Massively Multilayer Online game right? So why is MW2 not considered an MMO
This also applies to Team fortress 2 or left for dead and other such games.
So gamers, what do you reckon?

Online shooters are lobbied games, much like Guild Wars, its not really "mass multipler" in the same sense.

No... No it is not. An MMO is a vast open landscape where thousands of players are on the same map and band together, if they so choose, to help each other out. Call of Duty is rather Miniscule, with no more than, what, 16 players on a map? MAG is massive though, but still small when compared to the 1000 people running through Ironforge right now, and another 9000 dicking around the enormous map.

Calumon: Yay for the Gnomes!

MW2 is a rather poor singleplayer game with the option to play against others online, it's not made as an online game and it certainly isn't massive.

Really? And on your 6th post too? A game isn't massive unless it's game world is. Online game it is, massive, it ain't.

Search google images for PlanetSide.

TF2 is an Online FPS. Left 4 Dead (2) is an Online FPS. Neither of these is MMO. MW2 is not an MMO.

12 people is not massive.

Actually I know I just got shredded on my own forum but, in all seriousness you guys did clear up the definition of MMO for me BUT In that case surely they are wrong in Exra Credits when they say you would only need small hub areas because AND YOU GUYS JUST SAID THIS, it requires you to have a huge open world. Why cant we have Semi-linear MMO why does it have to be Sandbox. MMO refers to players NOT map?
