I'm thinking of going into Nuclear Engineering in college, but I'd like to know that there will be an industry to work in after college.

So, in your opinions, do you think Nuclear Energy will play a role, big or small, in our world in 20 years?

Discuss at your leisure.

Thanks,
-Mike

Maybe. Should it be? Absolutely. But all you need to do is mention "Chernobyl", and people get all antsy about it. In truth, it is very safe, but good luck getting people to believe that when they're too busy running around claiming that the sky is falling and that they can feel their third arm growing out of their stomach already.

So yeah, if we can bludgeon enough people with knowledge to get them to understand that nuclear power is safe, then it will. If not... well, there's always work overseas, I guess?

Depends on how things go.

Right now, the field is looking promising, several new plants are being built. That could very easily change by the time you get out of college however.

P.S. I don't know if military service holds any appeal for you whatsoever, but naval officers with nukee training are always in high demand, and get paid very well. ROTC program also means no bills for college whatsoever.

Yes. There is plenty of research being done in improving nuclear plants, on an international level (meaning lots of money).

If you're sure that's what you want to do, you should go for it. If you're insecure but still interested you could go for a chem major.

Well, it's one of the best options we've got, until we finally get something better running efficiently.
