Due to the nature of this thread, I should open up with a spoiler warning. There will be spoilers for the Zero Escape Series (9 Persons, 9 Hours, 9 Doors (999), Virtue's Last Reward (VLR) and Zero Time Dilemma (ZTD)) in this thread. Turn back now if you don't want to be spoiled.
My fellow Escapees,
Like many of you, I was busy enjoying ZTD this September, and finally getting answers to many mysteries that have been present in the series since its conception. However, as I was thinking about various details and characters present in the series, I began thinking:
Is Santa (Aoi), real?
Hear me out:
-He's never present after 999. This is highly suspicious, as someone who can access the morphogentic field is worth their weight in gold in the series.
-Junpei was unaware of his existance until the events 999, even though Santa's apparently Akane's brother. The fact that Junpei would not know that his closest friend had a brother is hard to believe.
My theory:
Santa's not real. He was most likely a projection created by Akane to help her in the first Nonary Game, and set up the second. When both those tasks were completed, he simply ceased to exists as Akane did not need him anymore. This is backed up by how Akane acts in ZTD when Junpei asks how Aoi is doing (she gives him a short, non-descriptive answer - probably dosn't want to explain what she did). This wouldn't be a stretch for the series (which introduced SHIFTing in VLR and Mind Hacking in ZTD), in which wild powers seem to be introduced every game (instead of just keeping it to telepathy).
Thoughts?
