Just a bit of fun really.

If Bikes don't float your boat invention-wise what does? If it doesent exist yet what would it be?

Ironic really because saw the Bicycle came top of a recent survey which made made me curious about the questions asked in this thread.

To move faster than on feet, it's the only way that works without disturbing to much of our nature and it prevents us from becoming fat and ugly. Yes, it's definitly the best invention ever.

I must say that the best invention is the Internet.
I agree. Hurray for the internet, it's got all you need: porn, torrents, other stuff...

Yes, yes it is. I use the my bike to get to work and basically everywhere else due to my lack of a car. It is the Wii-fit before the Wii-fit.

I wouldn't say the bicycle is the Best invention but its certainly a cheap way for me to get to college and back and i get exercise at the same time. Who knows, if the Global markets collapse and global warming takes hold we might have to resort the bicycles instead of our beloved cars.

The invention of the internal combustion engine is one of the most important inventions of the industrial world, even if the external combustion engine (steam engines and the experimental Stirling engine) preceded it.
How about 'engines'? Just in general? Machines from the watermill and windmill to the jet engine are central to human society, bicycles are not. Others that are equally important:

Written language
Democracy + Just law
Steel
Flight
Food refrigeration
Penicillin

Several more important inventions than the bicycl
Thanks for the post RAKtheUndead and for quoting sources. You didn't give us a 'but my best invention is....' though. So please if you will it would be appreciated.(That sounded so sarcy when I read it back)

Rossatdi:-

written language - probably the holy grail of inventions.
Democracy-just law - I'm an anarchist so for me outta the window.
Steel - I'll take that as alloying and it can probably mix it with the best of them as far as inventions go.
Flight - Not really an invention but I get your drift dude. Flip Boing Diddly Oing Flying Machine.
Food Refrigeration - bah, though do like the way it gives kitkats a nice bite.
Penicillin - Believe that was more of a discovery but I gets ya. There is penicillin tablets and stuff so I suppose they're an invention.

What about teh table?! Such a sturdy, reliable friend. Always there to carry your books and bottles and just about anything. Someone you can rest on who doesn't get tired. Keeps your spirits up and your homework done. WHERE WOULD WE DO HOMEWORK COMFORTABLY WITHOUT TABLES? And such a nice lacquer for the wooden ones.

That, and the robot backpack. Yeah, I looove me some helipack.

I'm going to go back to basics and say:

The Wheel
The Axe
The Generator (magnets moving inside a coil)
The Internal Combustion Engine

If you didn't have these, not much else would have happened...

Taking his a step further, i said "No" on the poll:

Tools were the best inventions ever. Be it a rock to smash things like a hammer back in the stone-age, the axe to harvest wood for fire to stay alive (and warm), to the power tools that build our every day devices.

Like he said, without tools in the beginning no one would have developed the wheel, etc.

Language is the best invention ever.
It is enabling me to communicate exactly my feelings to you at this very moment in time.
It also enables to convey precisely our needs.
And it's beautiful when handled well.
