I'd say it is, or is number two. Depending on whether you count sex, or breathing, or eating as inventions.
The cumulative knowledge of all humans in one place for access by anyone? Yes please.

I'd like to see it mostly as an invention that enhances other inventions by sharing knowlege about them.
And it's an excuse when your too lazy/busy/whatever to get a "real" social life.
