Something I have been wondering is if on a long road-trip do you imagine a being running beside you as you drive? Or is this just a weird habit? If so, What do you imagine?

I do it all the time when on buses and the such to prevent boredom, I tend to imagine a skateboarder because it used to be one of my hobbies.

A lot. I usually imagine it jumping over the obstacles we pass, or jumping from high point to high point. It's very entertaining.
I was surprised the first time I found out how many people did this.

I often also imagine some kind of laser beam coming from the car and following the ground, moving with the contours of the terrain like some 3D scanner or something.

All the time, man. Useally I imigine it being Kirby or a girl on a surfboard for some reason.
For me it's normally a slender humanoid figure. I think it might be Spider-man, I dunno. It's been a while since the last time I did it. No long car rides lately, and some times I just enjoy sitting down to philosophize.

Everyone does, also if it's been raining and you aren't actively having raindrop races down the window in your head or with a friend then you are dead inside :(

No, because that would require concentration on what's outside the car, and possibly a bit of spacial awareness. I have neither. My mind is usually on a completely different planet.

Yeah, absolutely this. I did it for a solid ten years until I began driving. Now I'm rarely a passenger in someone else's vehicle, so it's not really applicable to me.

Not as much anymore unless I'm really bored, but I used to imagine either a skateboarder or Sonic the Hedgehog running with the car. So no, you aren't completely crazy...

Wait, so I'm not the only one?

Well...I don't do it anymore (I'm usually on my DS or daydreaming/snoozing with my Ipod on), but as a kid, I Pictured Sonic running along the road near the car :p.

...I haven't been on a long road trip where I wasn't driving the whole time in over ten years... I'm not sure if your imaginings are weird, but I know I couldn't afford to have 'em.

I must have seen this thread at least three times before. On various forums, no less. I do this too. Sometimes I pretend that a speck of dust on the window is emitting a beam that cuts through the scenery, and imagining the chaos that would ensue were this the case.
I also become engrossed in raindrops travelling down the pane, which leads me to suspect that my brain is permanently on mescaline or something.

The first thing you mentioned, I do as well. I imagine "Something" (Mostly spider-man for some reason. o_O) jumping from car to telephone pole, to street lights and trees that we're passing by.

It works surprisingly well.

Usually I imagine I'm on a train. A REALLY big train. A really big train that I'm going to smash through a cities walls. And starting raiding it.

I also imagine people (myself) running along at that speed.

Never done it while driving though.
