[HEADING=1]Sandwich[/HEADING]

Here's a question, what is the name of this type of sandwich?

In America and probably other parts of the world, depending on what region you're in, it could have a different name. Here in New England, for example, it's commonly referred to as a "Grinder", but in other parts of the country it could be called a hoagie, hero sandwich or a sub. I'm sure there are even more names for it too, I just can't think of any more.

So my question to you all is, what's the common name for that type of sandwich where you live?

Being from Connecticut (originally, I'm in Florida now), I'm here to inform you that a grinder and a sub are not the same thing.

In Florida we call it a sub. But up in western Pennsylvania, where I go to college, they all call it a hoagie, and they'll be damned if they let you call it anything else. xD

In the general DC area people just call them subs. Probably due to all the Subway restaurants on almost every corner.

I suspect that your college is somewhere near Pittsburgh, that would make sense.

Whatever the makers of my delicious snack call it, I call it that.

Subway- Subs.
Italian Resturante- Hoagie.
My mother- Sandwich.

Etc.

I'm in central mass, and they've always been called grinders here. I thought that was the case in the rest of the region, it seems I was mistaken.

Ah, yeah, I looked up the difference and apparently a grinder is a specific type of sub, and the word for it is originated from Italian slang. A grinder is a toasted sub, according to wikipedia. Since it's wikipedia, make of that what you will.
