After the devastation, Japan is the only country I know that still maintains their integrity and politeness after such a horrific natural disaster. Seeing pictures of Japanese people lining up and actually getting exact number of supplies per person at stores without chaos and panic. I'm embarrassed to say that if this happened in the UK, there would be looting and mad chaos in shops. It questions our own ethics what we would do in these situations.

Anyone agree with me?

I agree. The Japanese value respect, family, and community more highly than western cultures; they understand that it's better to cooperate and help each other rather than force others to fend for themselves by hoarding supplies.

You're probably right, we panic over snow here, an earthquake would be a riot.

Not to idolize them too much, a lot of foreigners and natives have fled Tokyo, or even Japan, because of the panicky atmosphere, and people have been stockpiling food.

Granted, we'd do all that by at least tenfold.

There will always be looting and crime, so the Japanese arent flawless. You;re seeing the best, which is what you wnat to portray if you're an industrial and developed country to your foreign allies.

If what you say were true, there would be no crime what so ever in Japan, ever. Now, are they handling it better? Yeah, but again, you look at how many fled and left and how many are in shell shock, its not exactly surprising.

Living in New York, I can safely say that everyone would panic and about half of the people that survived the earthquake would probably end up killing each other in the aftermath...

And yes, I agree.

I don't know about the UK, I've never been there. But my typical mental image of a British person is that they're polite, and have a good sense of humor...

If it was America, though, all heck would break loose.

Yes I fully agree.. I won't be afraid to say that Americans tend to think everything belongs to them so in a disaster as big as that, people will make sure that they get the good stuff first and push everyone over for their own survival. We do that now actually.. I think it'll get ugly if a earthquake strikes here that big. No offense, cause I am American and I already know how people are.. it shames me actually.
Yup pretty much

I do agree, even the government swung into action almost immediately. If that was Britain, then there would be 3 days of arguments over who's fault it was before any real action was taken. The compensation lawyers would also have a field day

What they do is not admireable. It is usefull.
However walling off your emotions, supressing them for sake of pretending nothing has changed can not be healthy for a human mind. Sometimes we have to cry and shout to progress stuff. You can't just cram all the shit into a human soul and expect it to never overflow.

Japan especially is a country with a high suicide problem and grave social problems (such as the fact that homelessness is not accepted there).

This disicpline might seem admireable on the surface but it comes at a lot of prices too.
