A long time ago, I was reading forums about death battles between a JRPG teen and a Hardened Space Marine and debate battles about different people's viewpoints on either JRPGs and/or FPSs. Along the way I came across this little gem of a thread:

The thread from Extra Curricular, which was initially posted by Madzack, has had no replies to his thread, but his concept is interesting. I thought it needed more attention.
We know what to expect from the grizzled Space Marine veteran and the cute, plucky JRPG teen, but do anyone have any interest in what would happen when these two archetypes meet? This stuff sounds like fan fiction (not that all fan fiction is bad or anything), but for me, I am curious and interested in seeing how these characters, the JRPG teen and the Space Marine, meet and react to each other, how they react to each others' world, and how those worlds clash. It will also give the characters and the audience, a chance to explore the archetypes and tropes that come with their genres and, maybe, come to an understanding and/or acceptance to how each others' universe works.
But that's not just it. I want more games that combine more Western influences and Eastern influences like this as I think it will open new possibilities for the gaming industry. Not just in the gaming industry, but in most entertainment media. Some of the best fan fiction I've seen on the internet combines gritty Western franchises like Halo with cutesy Eastern franchises like Pokemon, and I want to see that stuff in my games. I enjoy the big, muscular space marines in most FPSs, and I also the like/indifferent to the bishounen pretty boys I see in most JRPGs. My dream is to change things from this:
(ignore laughing men)
and have things become like this:
The Kingdom Hearts series already got it right, and it became really successful for it.
I think this is a good concept to try, but I don't know about you guys. What do you guys think? Do you think game developers should start making these types of games?
(I might expand this issue in a different way in another thread so look out for it.)

I don't have a picture, but if I did, it would have Marcus Fenix and Cloud kicking the ever-loving ass of their enemies and doing a fist-bump in the end.
