Greetings Future Minions...erm I mean Fellow Escapists!

Woke up this morning ready to start the day. I was ready to face the world and take on any challenge life threw at me. I was gonna jump the shark.....that was until I was greeted with a very irritating article I read earlier today.

So apparently 2 kids, both in their 20s were trying to sue their mom for $500,000 (I'm not joking).
The reason for such drastic measures was because the children felt that their mother had caused them considerable "emotional distress".

The reasoning behind this was due to these few reasons:

1.) She didn't send her son college care packages
2.) She didn't buy her daughter the homecoming dress she wanted.
3.) Their birthday cards? No cash or checks, just Hallmark sentiments. (OH THE HORROR *Faints*)
4.) The most serious accusation claimed Garrity once slapped her son upside the head, causing him what he alleges are chronic headaches, according to ABC News. (This is just a claim however)
5.) And other claims as well. See article.

Thankfully the judge had a good head on his shoulder and ruled in favor of the mother, deeming these claims as "petty grievances of parental attention or inadequacy"

[HEADING=2] Oh and one more thing[/HEADING]
Despite the ruling, the Miner kids may get the accountability they were looking for. Garrity's attorney suggests that her client's legal fees may end up costing her more than 18 years worth of birthday checks.

LUUUUUUUUUUULZ

[HEADING=1]PLEASE READ FULL ARTICLE[/HEADING]

[HEADING=2]
Two kids tried to sue their mom for $500,000 because of "emotional distress" and mom skimming
out on their birthday gifts results in failure because of how petty the claims came out to be.
[/HEADING]

[HEADING=2]So Did the children have a valid reason to sue their mother over such issues?[/HEADING]

Next they should sue all the people who have ever rejected them.

I think there was already a thread on this last week. What baffles me is what kind of lawyer would actually take a case like this? Then again they are lawyers and lawyers are somewhat akin to ravenous sharks so I guess it's not that surprising.

Considering the deepest pits of Hell are probably crawling with creatures like those then I honestly wouldn't doubt a lawyer taking this case.

Oh I imagine those creatures crawling in the deepest pits of Hell probably fear lawyers.

Well, lawyers use the law to make money. If the lawyer had one this case he just found himself a lucrative cash flow. Pretty soon you'll see commercials telling you that if you had a grievance against your parent you may be entitled to financial compensation call now.

Welcome to the USA where anyone can sue anyone for anything and win.

God I hate our legal system there are way too many of these stupid law suits to the point I say if you put forth a stupid lawsuit then I'm going to throw you in jail for being such a moron but we can't do that or the prisons will be over populated.

^ Basically this.

The Number 1 Motto for a Lawyer is this:
SCREW MORALS! We have money!

I can compile a list of things that my abusive, drug-addicted parents have done to me over the years that are a thousand times worse than any of the things those two listed above, and I still wouldn't be able to get a dime out of a lawsuit like that. They must have had some sort of brain damage if they thought they'd get anything more than a slap across the mouth for wasting the court's time.

What the fuck is this!? I've heard of legal action against abusive parents, but this is just insane! It's a spoiled child being denied what it wants and throwing a tantrum. But then again, the stupid kids lost the lawsuit, so I guess there really is some good left in this world after all.

complete and utter crap. I hope the case went something like this:

Judge: Now, you, the children, you're alive, correct?
Idiots: uhm, yes?
Judge: CASE DISMISSED! pay your mother for the emotional distress you just caused her, you jackasses.

They didn't win, though. Kinda wrecks your post a bit.

Wow, just wow.. These kids man, they're just the start of it though. Next thing you know, some 6 year old will sue their parents for not buying him/her a pet dog for Christmas thus causing 'emotional distress'. The child will demand $400,000 and a medical insurance for life if the case wins in his/her favor. *Sigh*

But in all seriousness, that's really not something to sue your Mom over. Instead, why not talk to her and try to resolve it? Actually, they're 20.. go get a job and pay for your own stuff. I'm fortunate to have the parents I have- because they didn't spoil me and I turned out to be a very well mannered person (with flaws, i'm not perfect.) I mean, to sue my own Mom because she didn't get me something....?

In this situation, the Mom sounds a bit edgy with rudeness but still- this is going beyond the line. I actually wouldn't be surprised if a 6 year old sued for $400,000 because their parents didn't buy him/her a dog for Christmas. Or someone suing a Hobo for giving them a 'dirty look' as they walk down the street.
I just laugh at how idiotic those kids are, who obviously don't understand the value of anything. Hell I had a Job at the age of 13 (Getting paid under the table though) and I hardly find it emotionally distressful that I didn't get what I wanted. BOOHOO Big whoop.

What makes this so damn hilarious is that the mothers only legal fees may result in just a few more than 18 years worth of Birthday Cards.

Im in college and my birthday was recent. I told my mom he didn't have to get me anything(she did anyway, she is persistent)
Seriously other then 21 your birthdays between 18-30 arent that big of deals.
And no care packages? Boohoo. Grow a brain and learn how much your parents did care for you.
The worse i think is the homecoming dress and coming home from a party?
Seriously are there really these kinda people in the world?

Here is a link to all the allegations that were put against the mother: http://volokh.com/2011/08/28/adult-children-sue-mother-for-allegedly-having-been-really-mean/

It seems the mother and father had a very bad divorce, and pretty much spent the rest of their lives screwing each other over, bringing the kids into the arguments and squabbles, this appears to be just another way for the father to get back at the mother (he gave the kids the idea and represented them since he is a lawyer, so they didn't have to pay any court fees, whereas the mother had to hire a lawyer and is out of pocket for that.)

I think it's more a case of this is the latest in a long line of fights between the mother and father, and it just so happens that the mother is on the recieving end of the abuse, but she has given plenty of it in the past (although this is all specualation, going by the nature of stuff I have read about them in various news posts, and my knowledge of how petty people can be in situations like this.)
