Poll: Knit/Crochet Hats: Yay or nay?

I've been thinking about getting a knit hat lately. Someone I know will make me one with my choice of color for $20, which is probably my best option considering my unusually large head.
I've been looking around the interwebs for different styles, and I seem to find that some people seem to have a seething hatred for men who wear knit caps.
Opinions?

As a sidenote, how punchable would a (young, thin, average looking) man look if he wore a pink knit cap?

Unfortunately, I inherited my father's lack of ability to grow a decent beard. Which is a shame, because beards are awesome.
