NOTE: This is NOT an L4D2 rage thread, so please leave any and all contempt you may have for L4D2 out of this topic, direct it to this video if you desperatley need to vent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYFIVls_-f4

It's no secret that Versus mode on Left 4 Dead is rather unbalanced, a while ago the Smoker recieved a nominal buff that improved some aspects of him, but left others untouched like blasted auto-aim.

Just wondering, in your opinion what do you think is the most underpowered class? Personally I think it's the Boomer, since their vomit inducing horde always rush from the same location, making it easy to simply mow down the oncoming horde.

PS: I searched and found nothing, so foff

If you catch a witch from the back and load her full of shotgun shells she's no more threatening than a pale kitten.

I don't think its so much about the power of each individual class. You need them all cooperating if you want to achieve something. The boomer is invaluable in teamwork, since if he pukes on all players, they are disoriented for a while and the smoker and hunters can do their work quite easily.

That goes for the versus mode. If you're talking about campaign, then I think the smoker is the weakest. He manages fine if the team is distracted, but if anyone's paying attention then he's dead meat. At least the hunter has his pounce (if it's any good), and players around are stunned for a while.

I'd say the most underpowered is the boomer, too low health, and even if you do get to puke them, all they do is sit in a corner and spray for a while, you barely get any points.

The thing that annoys me more is being melee'd, I mean I understand it's there for balance, but if I was on top of a 3-4 storey building, and jumped on someone, from that height I'd be amazed if they could knock me backwards, yet on L4D, as a hunter, it happens. Alot.

EDIT: I have to disagree with all the witch voters, because, even though she can be pretty much insta-killed, if you get it wrong, she can inst-kill you no problem, so it's kinda fair. But with the boomer, you get insta-killed a lot, and you get very little reward when you manage to puke all over someone.

Witch.

Those saying that the Boomer is underpowered are severely ignoring that he has the biggest strength of any of the infected. He enables the attacks. If he didn't have a low amount of health he would be overpowered.

He's balanced.

Edit: Of course, I'm talking about Versus here. In Coop, the only infected worth anything is the Tank, and even then... not really. The AI for the infected is pretty terrible all around.

I agree, at first I thought boomer was the weakest but, as you say, in versus he is invaluable (as long as it isnt an open area) without the boomer causing some chaos the other hunter and smoker can only cause minimal problems.

As a rule they are fairly well balanced, but there are some points in vs where a boomer is completely useless (like atop the hospital trying to stop the survivors getting the the chopper) as he is very slow and cannot traverse open spaces at all.

They're all fine, as long as you know how to use them.

Boomer is amazing to allow your team to attack or to toss people off ledges.

Smoker is brutal to isolate people and force others to turn back or loose a team member.

Hunters are great at tackling runners and surprising people out of nowhere, specially during Boomer-induced hordes.

Unless a LOT has changed since last I played, If you're having a problem using a class it's a PEBKAC.

I find this games infected has a great sense of balance, if you think Boomer is weak, your not looking at this from a teamwork aspect. Everyone has there place, and if people work together VS can be very one sided. Ive been involved in some pretty wicked vs matches as infected with other good guys on my side.

I'm going with a boomer. Because the other special infected rely on their own skill to rope in, pounce, or smash the survivors. As a boomer (apart from melee/clawing) you can only rely on your skill to go up (slowly, and as a big target) and puke on them before they blow you up (a one shot kill) and then after the skill part is out of the way you have to HOPE that the survivors are noobish enough to get really damaged by the horde.

P.S.-Face it, if you get drastically damaged by the horde you either are playing on too high a difficulty or you need to practice the real game. If you can't survive a horde onslaught then you won't be able to progress the normal game, as it is, let alone versus where the special can plot and conspire against you.

My vote goes to the Boomer as being the most underpowered.

You make a very valid point, and you're right. As a part of the group, boomers are effective. But if you are trying to get a survivor damaged whilst your teammates are respawning, you are more likely to be effective as a tank, or a hunter, or a smoker.
