Good day you lot, this debate just broke out at school on Metallica and a comparison between their 2 most famous songs, Master of Puppets and One.

Master of Puppets: is basically an anti drug song and contains probably Metallicas greatest riff and one hell of a chorus. Released 1986 on their Master of Puppets album.

One: is about a soldier who lost everything in a explosion except his mind, another great riff but said to also have Metallicas best instrumental right at the end. Released 1988 on their And Justice for All album, this also won an award!

Both are heavy metal/rock songs and if you haven't heard them before your missing out, unless you hate metal music!

I haven't decided yet myself. Chuck in other Metallica songs you like or your favourite album, or where and when you first heard these songs.

Master of Puppets, not just my favorite Metallica song, but one of my favorite of all time. But for best album it's really close between the black album (self-titled) and Master of puppets, though Master of Puppets takes it because, well, it has master of Puppets.
EDIT: How could i forget No leaf Clover. Their only good song in the 90s

I may say the Call of Kthulu or Orion are my favorites, but master of puppets and one are both amazing.

One isn't an instrumental. It has words. And their best instrumental is a toss-up between Orion and Call Of Ktulu.

My personal favourite 'tallica song is either Fade To Black, or For Whom The Bell Tolls. Though Master Of Puppets is damn good too. Ah, good old 'Tally. They used to be the second greatest Metal band in the world. Shame about the '90s...
i aggree, fade to black is awsome. And yeh their 90's albums were pretty bad ( hto load had some hilights) butdeath magnetic is sounding really good from what ive bought from itunes

What about Leeds/Reading this year when they did one they had loads of explosions at the beginning and a huge one at the lyric; '...LANDMINE'

Ride the lightening was my favourite album of theirs hands down.

Back when I was at school/college it wasn't One vs MoP, it was Metallica vs Megadeth. Personally, I much preferred Megadeth, although I liked Metallica too. Dave Mustaine always sounded so much more pissed off and genuine, and their lyrics weren't as pretentious as Metallicas could be perceived to be.

I was at the Leeds festival and it was fantastic. They also had flamethrowers by the far ends of the stage. Metallica were absolutely bloody brilliant.

One is great, Master Of Puppets doesn't interest me much.

I'm not really big on Metallica, or metal as a whole, but I bought the '...And Justice For All' album on the strength of liking One, and it's pretty decent. The new album though, that sounds fantastic from what I've heard so far.

For me would have to be Master of Puppets not sure why but that song puts hair on your chest, unlike all the other pop stations around here. Its refreshing to hear any Metallica song really.

I could never stand Master of Puppets. Halfway through I'd just get bored and tune out.

One all the way.
