Escapist! I come to you in Dire need of some Minecraft computer help.

So for all of alpha and the first few updates of Beta Minecraft ran perfectly and smoothly.

But then, during the 1.5 update my Minecraft began to lag and stutter, even creating Audio artifacting on sounds playing in the background.

I didn't think much of it and ignored it, then my computer turned off.

It didn't crash, or shut down, or stutter it turned off as if i pressed the power button.

I thought it was a fluke, but when I loaded up Minecraft it did it again.

Now if i start playing it immediately starts lagging and then shuts off my computer.

This makes the game virtually unplayable.

After searching the internet for help I have found nothing, so I come to you Escapist.

Some Extra Info:
Computer has 4gb's of RAM
Have current version of Minecraft
I have watched CPU meters and nothing is out of the ordinary
This is NOT an overheating problem

I've encountered Minecraft shutting down and telling me that I had too little system memory.

I suggest toying with the video settings and see what settings end up with the best results, particularly since they're the only ones that can legitimately be modified. Start with turning off the "Advanced OpenGL".

I heard that update 1.7 was still very buggy so I haven't updated from 1.6.6 yet. That might be your problem, I'm not having crashing issues.
