After I recently started to play Terraria again and introduced it to some friends, they agree with me that its better than Minecraft.
Naturally those are just subjective opinions, but I find that Terraria has more to offer, more bosses, more events, simply more to do, more reason to play. I also like its graphics more.

So what do my fellow escapists think about those two games? which one is preffered and why?

I prefer Minecraft because I personally like the 3D sandbox to build things in. I don't play to beat it but rather to create a home. Then maybe a dock, then a farm, then a fort, then transportation between them, then...

Tough choices.
I like both for the exploration and construction factor.
Terraria is a bit easier on me eyes, though Minecraft has the benefit of the third dimension.

Terarria has more structure, and I like structure. Minecraft on the other hand adds some extra immersion due to the first person perspective. It is very cool to walk around your own creations.

I like both, but I think Minecraft has more lasting value.

Not really a tough choice for me, I bought Terarria at release, I can't stand it. Had a lot more fun in Minecraft, I couldn't even calculate how much time I spent on it.

Same for me as well. Doing things in Terraria actually has a point, where as Minecraft, there's nothing to do once the novelty of building random shit has worn off. Sure, you can build a massive castle with cannons and traps but once you do, there's absolutely no point to it.

Plus there's a Shark Gun in Terraria, can't beat that.

On one hand, I can usually keep going in Terraria for a longer period of time before I start playing something else instead. On the other hand, I have a desire to play Minecraft more often. So, I will say I'm neutral about this.

...I still find it a bit odd people compare the two so much. There both incredibly different games, but I will go with Minecraft since it's all about freedom to do whatever you damn well please.

I want to say Minecraft, but in reality I'm only backing it because of the Tekkit mod. Otherwise, I really couldn't care for either - tekkit gives me freedom, and nuclear devastation :)

I like a lot of the stuff in Terraria but I feel like it is so repetitive even for the type of game it is. Digging is not much fun, fighting is annoying until you wait until you get super awesome weapons, crafting makes no sense sometimes: wait, to make the same size armor, I need more Steel than I do copper? What? There is no need for that contrived crap.

The big thing, though, is controls. I despise clicking on the tiny blocks to do digging. I didn't spend $50 on an ergonomic mouse so it gets uncomfortable, it takes forever, and just clicking on the small spot is annoying. Maybe if that is fixed in console, I'd maybe possibly consider it.

Minecraft is Minecraft. Starting new adventures is cool along with Better than Wolves type mods. If you want to build cool stuff, play Fortresscraft. Better detail and custom blocks.

I like both, but I like Minecraft more do to the fact it's such a large timesink, and it seems that you have alot more space for you to work with. At the same time I like Terraria because it's a fun 2D side-scroller that's bright and more colorful than somewhat dull Minecraft. Yes there are probably some Minecraft mods or Texture packs, but I'm measuring the games without them.

I had immense troubles with controlling myself in Terraria, which baffles me.

But I'd say Minecraft anyways, because 3D computer building.

It's a tad contrived, but I break the experience of both games down into a simple metric:

Minecraft - Quirky "retro-art", free-form building, simple exploration, varied environs, a few unique "events".

Terraria - Quirky "retro-art", free-form building, more robust exploration, more varied environs, unique events and boss battles.

For me, Terraria wins.

Now, my silly little comparison aside, truth be told I just have more fun in Terraria. Whether I'm exploring, building, or taking part in epic PvP, boss, or event battles.

However, I may never play Minecraft nor Terraria again once Starbound comes out. That game's shaping up to be incredible.

Minecraft wins as a sandbox, Terraria wins as a game. I prefer sandboxes to games most times.

Minecraft wins as the toy, Terraria wins as the game.
Building anything in Terraria is utterly pointless unless it furthers the adventure, but in Minecraft it's a joy to build, as if you got an entire world full of LEGO.

Nailed it.

When I want to play a game, I play Terraria. When I want to play in a sandbox, I play Minecraft.

Pretty much sums it up, but since I'm in a gaming mood, instead of one where I build things in an 8-color world, I'll say Terraria. The way you mine for resources by random expeditions into the dark of the map to make yourself better is something I could get behind in more games. Minecraft is fun and addicting and amazing, but it seldom feels like I'm making progress in things, while in Terraria, I can go out and destroy the Wall of Flesh and the Eye(s) of Cthulhu. Plus? Wizard hat! NymphDryad! Indiana Jones, Mario, and Link costumes without having to edit picture files.

Minecraft is less fun overall (Still a lot of fun) but has more replayability. Terraria is a lot of fun as you go through it but once you're done thats it. The 2nd playthrough is never quite the same wild ride.
