One of my friends who doesn't really keep up with games recently told me that she was considering getting one of the two Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games. "Good Idea!" I said, having played the second with my mates, then she asked me a question that I didn't know how to answer. The question is: Which one should I buy?
Please keep in mind that she only has a PC.
P.s. I would like to know why you think its so freaking great.

Edit:
My friend says she would prefer one more emphasized on the story mode.

Although I liked the dog powerup better in MW1, everything else is totally more badass :)

I personally feel CoD4 was more "solid" in terms of guns and multiplayer.

And if it's on PC I'm sure CoD4 is the way to go.

depends. Does she want more of a single player experience or multiplayer. If multi ask her if she like matchmaking or dedis, if dedi say Mw1. If single still say MW1.

The story, in my honest opinion, is quite rubbish in both. So I would get MewTwo just for the multiplayer. Or just go and loan her COD4

4's story was excellent. The only thing we aren't told is about the ultranationalists in Russia.

Er...thats World at War.

Anyway, Cod4 is probably better in terms of story, and the multiplayer maps (in my opinion) are far superior.

MW2 is better in action set pieces and the multiplayer has been polished to such a fine sheen that you may just go blind from looking at it. However, dealing with the lack of dedicated servers on the PC may be a little more than puzzling. Yet, I think its something that the general populace on the PC has grown to deal with since the game really is that good online.

[sub](BTW, this is not a personal attack nor am I trying to hate on the series. Lets keep this civil)[/sub]

I honestly don't see what others do in it. It seems like the addition of names and unique voices to a hand full of characters has tricked everyone into thinking the story was actually good. I mean it was superior to other COD games, but it was not a good story. Soap had no character development, and even the nuclear explosion sequence failed to impress or pull heart strings. If I could be honest, in my limited knowledge of shooters, I would say that Halo's plot blows COD's out of the water.

I couldn't even tell what was going on half the time. There were some russians who set off bombs and stuff and the US army helped the SAS. None of this really came on till the near end, and I didn't see why I should be caring about it.

The only reason COD4 seemed to do so well is because it had some sort of a plot, rather than a good one.

So please, explain to me what you (and so many others) saw in the plot of COD because there must be something I am missing.

Tell her to have some respect for her platform and get the first one. But I think both are rubbish online. The single player part, while mostly ridiculous and over the top, is pretty fun though.

It's difficult to rent a PC game. :p

.
Anyway, I played both (cod4 on PC, MW2 on... PC, but it was my friends account... sucker). Story wise, MW2 is much more dramatic, but it's really confusing, and I don't think it would help not knowing CoD4's story. Plus, I think CoD4 knows it's limits. I swear MW2 was trying to hard (though don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it).

Multi-player. Well.. There's the no dedicated server support in MW2 (and btw I still stand by my boycott to this day). The multiplayer is definitely polished in MW2 but when it comes down to it, it's just running out there and shooting someone else, and you can do that just as well in cod4 as you can in MW2. Cod 4 is def more fun for me.

For me, CoD4 is the way to go. The stronger of the MWs.

I was thinking more loaner her it. Rent was a bad word to use because people associate it with Blockbuster and stuff

Can't believe I didn't notice this before.

Does she even have a PC that can run the games? I mean, its not like any old PC can run video games.

Well I would, but I don't own it.
I have played MW 2 on my friend's 360 before. I haven't played COD4 before, and the Zero Punctuation review made it out as good, so I'd thought I'd get some opinions first.

Crap, neither did I.
She has a dell xps (What kind, I don't know.) computer, with some sort of Nvidia chip and 3-4 gigs of ram. I think the last game she got was the Half-life 2 Orange box.
