Over the past few months on the Escapist there have been a group of thread topics that seem to re-emerge repeatedly. This thread isn't meant to spread hate, only to highlight generic forum thread topics that everyone is tired of. I am aware that some of you reading this may think I am using this thread topic to generate hits, and you'd be right, but I also want to stimulate discussion about this issue and promote more interesting thread topics on the website.
(2. How do I contribute to the thread?
Well, you need to give an example of a thread topic that has been done to death. The sort of topic that comes up with no thought put into it but is guaranteed to score hits. Think the thread topic equivalent of the next Michael Bay movie -- generic, boring, but bound to become successful. It would be ideal if you explained what it is you don't like about the thread.
The poll is meant to be an example -- to start you off.

"Recommend an album, book, movie, game etc." People who post this thread topic probably have realised that there are plenty of opinionated people who are willing to post their own preferences in the thread. The thread becomes incredibly long, but is incredibly boring and offputting to read because of its length. This thread is fairly common, and ends up clogging the forum links section on the site outside of the community forums section. The thread serves a purpose to the author, however it is unlikely that the author will be able to read and consider more than the first couple of entries.
