This is for a School Presentation so it would be nice (even though the choice is limited) if you could do the poll

I like the ones Uwe Boll has done. I don't like any of the others that I've seen. I guess Resident Evil wasn't too intolerable. That's about it though.

It feels like half of all the threads now are for schoolwork. Bleh. Do your own work.

Movie adaptations of video games? Haven't really seen any.

With only yes or no to choose from I have had to go with no. However I would have really liked to have ticked the following option:

They tend to not be very good in the main. However, there is a lot of potential if a producer and script writer didn't try to rush something out just to hit some supposed deadline.

Generally they tend to suck. Video game storys at this point arent too great to begin with. Once you take out the elements that made it good (ie the interaction), it stands by itself. And usually it cant.

Also, bad actors, low budget, bad director are common in those movies.

Well, if it's done properly, then sure. It can go really well. More often than not, however, it does get butchered. Lara Croft, Mortal Kombat, Hitman, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, I could go on. Whereas the short film, Half Life: Escape from City 17, is just brilliant. So yeah, depends on how well it's made.

Well...they work as long as you haven't played the game.

I liked the Resident Evil movies...but have never played the games, and recognise that making them about a character that doesn't even turn up in the games was an odd choice.

Likewise, the Doom movie. If they had called it, um..."Mars Marines" or something, it would have been an alright, but forgettable, movie.

Perhaps seeing a few childhood game characters come to life would please me greatly but I deeply believe Movies and Games should stay the f*** away frome eachother..
Hmm.. to answer the queston though. What would improve movie adaptions of the video games? MONEY for a start. A budget movie adaption is a bloody insult! Resident Evil showed a few signs of budget cuts in the forth movie but are still holding out strong. I personally like all of them.

You're kind of hindering your results by including only two options. But i guess i'll answer eh not really. Yes we have some potential gems with PoP and the Resident Evil movies but most of the others are just utter rubbish.

Well, i enjoy seeing video game characters brought to life in the big screen, but most of the time the movies fail to capture what made the characters and the story unique. I guess Prince of Persia was alright. Silent Hill had a lot of potential (good actors, good sfx and soundtrack), but the plot was seriously flawed (crowds in Silent Hill? The little girl explaining the plot at the end of the movie?Where´s the subtlety? Why the exposition?) and i must admit that the Resident Evil films are like a sort of guilty pleasure to me (i know they´re awful, but i´m entertained by them). I usually avoid films by Uwe Boll (Dungeon Siege, Far Cry,Alone in the dark, bloodrayne, postal, house of the dead...)

The Resident Evil films are ok, but they have the....benefit?... of being converted into more "regular" zombie films. I mean, Mila didn't get a pop up message reading "you need the blue key!" even once.

Doom, was a travesty. The only thing it shared with the actual game is the location (mars) and a few props. Everything else was just wrong.

Bloodrayne....eugh...apparently there was a sequel, but I ran out of eyes to gouge out. Uwe boll is a crime against movies and computer games.

Silent Hill was pretty good, I never played the game though.

I WOULD enjoy it if they did it right. Prince of Persia is a step in the right direction but we're still not there. See first you want to pick the right game. Final Fantasy Advent Children was GOOD because it was everything that the Final Fantasy stories wanted to be. In fact I deem it the best game by far since there was only one crappy menu to navigate on the DVD.

I WOULD also like to see some games made into films. Zelda is crying out for one I feel, if it got the right people behind it. Metal Gear Solid is ESPECIALLY crying out for one for the same reason Final Fantasy did well. Otherwise there are some games that should never be made into films (ie Super Mario, Street Fighter, Minecraft etc.)

Like I said, I WOULD like to enjoy them, I'd be all over them if they were as good as super hero flicks...they're just not there yet and I can't honestly enjoy them =\

I want to submit to the poll but it's too black and white for my liking. Not all game movies are good you see. For example, I loved the 2 Mortal Kombat movies but I didn't (and don't plan) to give the Tomb Raider films any of my precious time. Mario was alright when I was a kid but looking back I probably wouldn't watch it again. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was an abomination (I would have liked it much more if it was just titled, The Spirits Within) but, Advent Children was my all-time favorite VG-movie. I could roast the Street Fighter movies but that would be like roasting a bronze medal winner at the special Olympics.

Anyway, VG-movies aren't all terrible but a lot of them are bad...really bad. Some are the good kind of bad but a lot are...just bad. I'm looking forward to an R-Rated Mortal Kombat film which will probably never be released because for a really good, really violent MK film to come into existence it would probably need to be more like an NC-17 rated film (a rating not common for films which center completely upon violence)

it depends on the specific movie, but generally no, i don't like movie adaptations of games.
it's possible to make a good movie adaptation but tricky and difficult not to change too much or too little.

Unfortunately most of them are complete bollocks. Then again, do we really even want movies based on games? The reason why movies from books work is because we're getting a visual link to the text. The problem with movies from games is that we already have the visual. We've also got pretty much everything else: a character's mannerisms and voice, the landscapes etc. They end up feeling like a shallow, faded copy of the game.
