For all of you people who have never heard of this game, You, the player, take the role of Kate Archer, a spy in H.A.R.M.'s way. Note that from the title on the box.
This is one of those games that my dad showed me, and at first i was slightly skeptical. The graphics are nothing like current generation of HL2 or Crysis, but it was released just around the Millennium.
The gameplay is mostly your standard shoot, duck, and shoot again, but done very effectively with enemies running around, shouting very well written insults, with some hilarious comedy stuck in between. The thing that stands out for me and for, i think, most people about this game is the incredibly laughable AI dialogue. At one point near the end (no spoilers here, you will just have to play it to get the background of this one) if you are sneaky enough getting up to two guards, they begin discussing the lava along the floor of the cave. It turns out not to be real lava because real lava doesnt look as good as the fake lava. Only a well thought out game could present such a thing as well as NOLF does.
Most of the locations vary enough to keep the game interesting although the one level where you aren't allowed to kill anyone is the worst part of the whole game and should be killed for it. Also something worth noting is the slight RPG element to NOLF, in the sense that you get to spend skill points, earned by completing objectives and picking up intelligence, on skills like stealth, health, and armor, among other things. This allows you to tailor your Kate Archer very effectively.
As you are a Spy, you are also able to be stealthy with a little eye meter, somewhat akin to the gem in the Thief Series, something i was very happy to see. But most importantly the game is just fun. Yes that's right, i said it was fun. As a hot female spy tearing through the enemy with tons of different weaponry, you have fun.
A definite BUY IT
