We should all be in agreement about this. For those who don't know what it is Google it, no time? It's an artillery game played with birds, like Crush the Castle but with birds instead of rocks.

Sure the game is fun, we all love it, but how popular it's become is insane! I went down to Fry's one day, there were boxes of Angry Birds candy, they weren't assorted like Skittles either every bird had their own box(which I wish Skittles would do), not to mention the plush toys, clothes, hats, that Google Chrome commercial, and now a cartoon series? Seriously I'm not joking Rovio bought out an animation studio and are making them create a 52 episode long series on Angry Birds. What still surprises me is the fact that this was done by an indie developer. I'm not saying all indie developers don't like profit or something but I thought one goal of gaining profit was to invest back in the company to pus innovation and new games and other stuff.

This game has become way too popular, we're all in aggrement, yeah?

Just ignore it if it bothers you. I hardly ever hear anything about the game.

I went with "sorta" on the poll because I don't really think it's gotten too popular, i'm just surprised at how popular it's become.

I really have no idea, there are literally hundreds of flash games on the internet witht he same basic concept. Flinging stuff at other stuff for points. The only reason I can think of that makes sense is that it's more easily accessible since you can have it on your phone rather than having to sift through all those games on the internet.

Alright, yeah, the cartoon series is a little bit much I gotta say. What the hell's gonna be the plot? Every week a bunch of pissed off birds go up to the 3 little pigs and get all big bad wolf on'em by knocking down their houses for no discernible reason?

Why is it not okay for this thing to be popular? I've never played the game, probably never will but I don't begrudge them getting to their level of popularity.

It almost seems like in this day and age things are looked down upon or hated because they become "the next big thing" if they weren't already established franchises or a multi-million dollar "AAA" IP.

THese things come and go in cycles, remember back in the 90's and the beanie babbies crazy, or the tickel me elmo thing, or if you want to reach, that damn macerena song? weird shit becomes popular all the time, it isn't explainable and it won't last forever so why get bent out of shape about it?

Angry birds is pretty random; you can do the same action twice and get completely different results.

So, yeah, I guess I agree that angry birds is more popular than it should be. I don't begrudge the studio's success, though.

:p I don't know if you made this topic in response to this article:

But apparently the maker of Mario and Zelda wishes he had thought up Angry Birds.

Do we really need another thread where someone is trying to look cool by shitting on something that's popular? I personally don't think that The Legend of Zelda deserves a lot of the praise it gets, but you don't see me making a thread about it in an attempt to impress people.

They ain't exactly the first to get their game in animated form. (No I'm not talking about Mario and Zelda, anyone remember the Viva Pinata cartoon show?) The only mechandise I've seen are just the plushies in game stores and inside the claw game.
Beside ain't some other companies aim to become super popular like e.g Moshi Monster?

It will pass, nobody will remember them and the people who like it will leech onto the next big thing. besides all they really did was get out the gate first, there are tons of games that are pretty much angry birds: the good edition.

From what I found out from PATV Checkpoint it,"follows the adventures of the birds and gets beyond the slingshot to explore the character behind them." There's not a lot to characterize. Dang it TV! Make cartoons out of video games with at least a hint of solid plot, you did good with The Legend of Zelda(I don't care if it's not Link to you, he was fun for me), Megaman(still loved it), and Super Mario Bros.(we all loved it, now let's do the Mario) but why Angry Birds? At least make an anime off of Cave Story first, or a gritty realistic war show about Crysis or the aftermath of the Covenant on Earth.

Honestly, I'm questioning whether or not Rovio sold out. It's not one of those,"Oh there so popular now that their not underground anymore," things it an,"oh wow, they made a pretty cool game! So what's next for you guys? Yes the cartoon is nice but I'm talking about other games."

Seriously where is Rovio's second game?

Maybe the name and look, but the overall mechanic and gameplay was already done by someone else by whoever created Crash the Castle.

PLAY THIS GAME IF YOU THINK ANGRY BIRDS IS AN ORIGINAL IDEA. Or maybe the sequel, it's a lot better.

Not really. It's a fun game, and deserves most of the popularity it gets.

It's not bad to be popular.

Even if Crush the Castle did do it first (which it didn't, lots of games in this genre existed before Crush the Castle) Angry Birds is the one that evolved, grew, and became better.

It's like trying to bash the latest FPS game for just taking what Doom did. It makes little sense and doesn't help the argument.

Angry Birds has become popular because it's a solid game, accessible to a lot of people, and while this part is obviously up for debate, it's...well...just FUN.

I'd bet just about anything that if the game had been invented in the 80's, people would rank it as a classic alongside games like Galaga and Donkey Kong, and nobody would care if it was popular.

There's nothing inherently wrong with Angry Birds being popular. The only thing I find odd is that they get a little bit out of hand with merchandising. But I don't have to buy the stuff.

All I know is there are currently four Angry Birds games available for 99 cents each, and beating every level in all of them would probably take you a lot more time than your average $60 triple A title takes to beat these days. Plus all four games occasionally get new content and level packs for free.

Yes indeed, it's preposterous! How dare people like something that they find fun?!

This must stop.
