Hello Escapists!

I'm currently residing in The Netherlands (AKA Holland for some), which besides being a relatively insignificant little patch of land on the European shores has some very interesting laws and social codes and/or stigmas about Cannabis (AKA Marijuana) consumption and distribution.

I know this is probably a topic that has been started many times, but I'm very interested in what everyone has to say if you compare your local laws to the laws the dutch government enforce. Please don't be afraid to ask away, I'll do my best to answer any questions. Oh, and please fill out my poll...BE HONEST guys!

Cheers From Holland!

PS:Yes, I do.

The cannabis... it is evil...
Never tried it, never will.
It would stop me from giving blood if I did sully myself with it.
I count it as sullying because it would feth up all of my plans if I touched any drug.
But cannabis really stinks, which is enough excuse for me to stay the hell away from it.
I don't want to mess myself up with it like so many others where I live.

Copypasta answer: Many reasons for legalising it, none for keeping it illegal. Want to try, have only done second hand.

As well as dangerous.

Don't anyone try to compare it to being drunk either, I have seen people who have been drunk and people who have been high, and it is not the same.
Have you ever seen a guy who was high beat a guy up senselessy for a little thing?

I know I have seen drunk people do it a lot at the bars. But at my local coffeeshop 0 violence ever occurs.

Smoked often for a while. Then I grew up. Drugs offer no greater truth or understanding, or really any boon of any kind to you. So why continue usage of a substance that offers a temporary and empty happiness, but costs so very much?

I dunno. I don't begrudge you for smoking if you do, but I feel that I must draw greater meaning from my life, and after running the total cornucopia of drugs, I've found them lacking.

I've never used it, and I never will. It's not because I think it's evil or think it can or will kill me or harm me in any way.

It's because I'm simply not interested.

I personally don't want to do Cannabis, not now, not ever.

Before I get the pro-Cannabis people on my back for that I should say that my reason for not wanting to try it is simply because I have no interest in using any mind altering substances (if other people want to do it then go ahead, I won't stop you).

About the issue of it's legality, the ideal solution would be to tax and regulate it (so make it something similar to how alchohol and cigarettes are treated) but realistically that wouldn't really work (or it would take a long time for the transition from illegal to regulated to actually have any positive effect).

hehhhehehehe I like Cheetos.
but no I never tried any drugs because I already have a short attention span, bloodshot eyes, go into extensional quandaries, say random things, laugh for no reason, sleep all the time, and zone out to pay close attention to stuff like my own hands.
People do drugs to be like me!

No, not the same, but it gives you the feeling of being drunk (dizzy, wibbly wobbly high) although it lasts for less time.

May as well post before this becomes ten pages full of people who know fuck all about anything, just like the tobacco and alchohol threads!

I smoked heavily from the age of 13 to 25. I was known amongst my friends (all smokers) as the most hardcore smoker they'd ever seen. I'd smoke from 5.30pm to 1am weeknights and from whenever I woke up to whenever I fell asleep at the weekends. I was rolling my next before the current one was half-smoked.

I stopped when I decided I'd had my fun. Just like alchohol, too much can screw you up. But at least weed doesn't make you start fights, or give you hangovers.

And I have some awesome photos of my creations!

EDIT: Just to add my thoughts, Legalise it, tax it. If cigarettes and alchohol are legal, there is absolutely NO reason to keep weed illegal.

Nearly legalized over here, Prop 19 failed, oh well. I've tried it and I might smoke it here and there, like maybe three or four times a year, but I'm not the biggest fan of it though the reasons for keeping it illegal are crazy. The Dutch laws about it are pretty good but I voted for Prop 19 for a reason and I hope a similar law to that one is passed sometime soon.
