Not sports related, sorry.

For those of us who work, this situation is bound to come up sooner or later. Your shift is over but your assistance seems necessary as your co-workers are overwhelmed with extra work.

Do you stay and help not only for the extra money but also to contribute to the well being of your "team"?

Or do you leave? You've done your duty for the day, let them deal with the headaches.

I would (and did today as a matter of fact) stay and help. Sure it eats up into my spare time but overtime money is nice and so is earning the respect of your co-workers.

What do you think?

When I did work, I didn't really have a choice when it came to working overtime, as I was a babysitter. If I left, not only would I have been fired, but I would be deemed "irresponsible". (Yes, I was put in charge of children)

So yeah, I stayed. I didn't mind it ever though, as overtime only happened after they were asleep, and I got to just sit and watch TV. ^_^

This should have been about sports

I hate my co workers, but I love me some money, so yeah, I'll stick around.

You should really be more careful about these things, occasionally I set traps for you :p

Babysitting doesn't really count my friend; I don't think there was an extra rate for your overtime.

No, it counts. I got paid extra for staying later.

At least I didn't fall into the same trap I did months ago, with the Pikachu picture, and you calling me out in the first post. (I had started posting before you edited though)

If I was a shift worker and I was getting time and a half, I would weigh it with any prearranged plans. If I have shit else to do and could use the money, yes I would work overtime. My dad took his employer to the cleaners working overtime.

If you're a salaried employee though, it's something you should keep track of.

Hmm, you had generous employers then. Whenever I babysat I got paid a flat rate, no matter how late the parents returned home.

[sub]Yeah, I recall that instance. I really got you good that time :D[/sub]

No. I stay after my shift's done, I get written up and can, if it happens repeatedly, get fired if I do.

Here's how it always goes for me:

"You want me to work overtime, eh? Am I getting paid time-and-a-half? No? Damn. Well I will anyway; I want/need more money."

Im jobless, so anytime and overtime would be grand for me.^_^ But of course it depends on plans. Im not blowing off dates for a few bucks, but if Im just going to do nothing, I might as well get paid with that time spent doing something worthwhile.

I don't work. But, I put a lot of overtime into my gaming.

Some money would be nice though.

Yep.

I actually picked up an extra shift last week, an extra four hours on my check. It wasn't worth the time I put in, or the physical exhaustion of walking to work six days in a row.

This is, however, the only way to get extra money at Starbucks. And overtime is SEVERELY frowned upon... labor can be cut very sharply to avoid giving someone overtime. My extra shift took me to 37 hours from 33. *shrug*

I don't get paid overtime any. Tis what I get for being salaried. When I was hourly my staying late depended on if I had anything better to do. If it was during the week, then I usually didn't and helped out mainly for the extra cash. Of course, doing so made it look like I'm an awesome employee and helped to move me up to a position that pays well enough to not be hourly anymore. Double bonus for me. :)

Depends on how long it's going to take, if it's going to be another 2 hours then I'm not going to stick around.

I will only if I'm getting paid. I used to do it to help workmates, alleviate stress etc but companies, like much of humanity, end up taking the mickey if you give too much. Non-work related example, I also used to do any spare washing up that was on the side/in the sink in house shares but every time housemates simply stopped doing their own washing up!
