Big news right now is The Pirate Bays court case, for those who don't know they are the largest tracker on the internet. So I was wondering what are your thoughts on this? Do you approve of this? Do you use torrents? Whats going to happen next in this case?

That is the Escapist article on the case.

Also do you pirate games? Such as Stardock? Because I don't think they deserve it, EA on the other hand.....

I never pirate new releases. I like to have a physical copy of my game, because it won't glitch and stuff like pirated games to.

I do, however, download from torrents, games that are almost impossible to get hold of these days, like certain old PC games I played as a child. But that's never at the cost of the companies, because they don't make it anymore, and if I did buy it, I'd be buying it off Ebay anyway, not off the company.

I want Airline Tycoon :(

Anyhow, in small amounts I have a VBA with a couple games that I already own (mostly) and I think that's the extent of my pirating.

Yes I pirate.
No I feel no remorse.
Yes I will do it again.
I use Vuze by the way, excellent program.

I pirate movies, watch them once and delete them.
I pirate games that I do not think deserve my money (including Fallout 3, I thought it was damn shallow compared to Oblivion).
I pirate music that I cannot get my hands on any other way.

I'm not going to say I've never pirated anything, but if there was no piracy, movies, games, and especially music would be so very much cheaper. Piracy doesn't just hurt the company and the artist, but also the honest people and the true fans of the product.

Now, after saying all that, will I ever pirate something again? Yeah, probably. Some things you can't even get from the publisher anymore.

I don't pirate any new releases, I let my brother do that, and I ask him every month if he has some new games I might enjoy :)
I also ask friends if they have games I can borrow. I then find a fake(working) key and play the game with a cracked .exe

So, yes I pirate games, and no I do not care.
The only company I buy games from is Valve, because I respect any company that patches and fixes problems in a game that's 4 years old.

That wouldn't change without piracy. Companies would still charge as much as they could get away with.

Only on the seas... Arr.

No, but seriously though, I "Pirate" games, but only games that I wouldn't buy otherwise because I have too little money, or if the games are old and hard to come by... One thing I don't like however is people downloading stuff like independent games (World of Goo as an example).

I'll be honest I pirate music and anime.

Anime fans dub them and hand them out anyway. If you watch anime they clearly state in every opening title it's for free.

For music, I only ever download them if I ever want one or two tracks from the album. I'll buy the CD if I feel that it's worth it, and it's really just for collector's sake. Also if I download an artist's song, and I like it I'll be inclined to seek out more songs from the artist, an example would be Muse. Who I may add is now one of my favorite bands, I own all their CD's including limited edition copies.

I feel no remorse for it if you really need to know. I do not have the luxury to set out to and indulge every album that could be good, I tried that, I ended up getting St. Anger and now I think "wtf was i thinking?" If corporations want me to respect them, they should have the confidence to not worry about piracy by bringing out products that would compel a consumer to go out and get it.

Also sometimes, people just don't make stuff that you can get anymore. I of course speak of games like Grim Fandago.

More than 50% of us has probably pirated something. I know I have. And my anti-guily mechanism is my 360 and all the games I buy for it.

I pirate films, but never games or music.

People are whining a lot these days about how the gaming industry is going down the pan due to all the game developers and publishers only making games that sell to the masses, i.e. big series's that take no risks. One of the main reasons for this is piracy!

The day after Demigod was released there were ~18,000 legitimate copies being played online and ~150,000 illegal copies. Now no matter what you think of Demigod's originality and gameplay, surely you can see that with these massive losses being made due to piracy, companies are only going to stick to making generic shooters and sports games that they know will make them at least some cash?

Of course there is the issue of why so many people pirate in the first place, whether its human nature or the fact that electronic media is priced way too high. But regardless, if an original game is made people should not steal it! It's ruining the industry! (Btw I'm not saying Demigod is original, I've never played it, but you get my drift.)

Well that's not nice. I'll pirate games from any company then shout "gratz" if it's a good game. Pirating games to spite the companies who made them means you're a very boring person.

In my opinion piracy is only justified in my opinion when you want to download abandonware or something that has never been released in your region. Otherwise, no.

I've never pirated a new release...I've actually only ever pirated games that I've broken or lost from the Playstation, GameBoy era. I've downloaded MegaMan Legends, Brave Fencer Musashi, 1st generation Pokemon, etc.

If I'm not mistaken though, downloading games you've already bought and owned isn't illegal.
