Hi everyone, I am starting this thread with the hopes of keeping my fellow Pokemon fans, here on the escapist, informed with the latest news on X and Y. This is currently just an idea that I feel could be useful to help keep informed. I plan on posting links to new info when it is released. I will be putting videos and pictures in spoiler tags to help reduce clutter.

So far the following two videos have been released regarding the two new games. The first being the announcement trailer which gave glimpses of possible gameplay, three starters, two legendaries and the month of its release, October 2013. The second video revealed the new eeveelution Sylveon.

In the announcement trailer the three starters were revealed to be Chespin (the grass type starter), Fennekin (the fire type starter)and Froakie (the water type starter). It also revealed the two main legendaries Yveltal and Xerneas. Yveltal's and Xerneas' types are currently unknown.

Of course, with any information that is release we get theories about what else the videos could mean, such as the speculation over the typing of Sylveon. This thread is also a place where these theories can be discussed, however, I will only be updating this OP with official announcements as I do not want to give people the wrong idea.

Anyway, this thread is currently just an idea that I am hoping to keep updating with new info about the game up until the release date. I've included a poll just to see if it is worth updating this regularly or not.

So, if you have an opinion on this idea or you want to discuss theories on the new games feel free to reply!

I feel like while we will be getting new Pokemon, some evolutions will be introduced. For example:

Delibird is so friggin' cute. But he needs an evolution. What other way then the 6th generation?

I really want them to use the follow system from HG/SS but they don't seem to be from the looks of the demo footage. A lot of the people I've spoken to really liked that part, but Nintendo seem to be in the habit of not listening to the fans with this particular franchise, as seen with no decent Wii pokemon game. What are your opinions on the follow system?

Sylveon's type huh?

Based on the looks, it could be "normal" but that kind of throws poor Eevee under the bus. It could be "fighting" with a similar thought process as Mienshao. I sure hope it's not playing on some gender gimmick (with the other being a male version like Nidoking and Nidoqueen), because it looks like a Sailor Moon pet and 87% of all Eevee are male, making , Sylveon by default, painfully rare.

I'd like them to reboot the franchise. They have too many Pokemon as it is. EVs are completely insane, and I can't see how someone without an internet conection could find out about them. IVs too, but they're even worse.
EVs are pretty simple once you get into it. IVs are just annoying to get right. And the EVs and IVs aren't really important unless you do have an internet connection.

Grass looks like the fighting type from the starters. Fire looks to eloquent and water is... something.

I swear, if I get another damn Fire/Fighting starter.

I absolutely loved that about HG/SS =) It was so simple but awesome - it felt a lot more like the Pokemon in your team were on the journey WITH you and not just your tools for combat.

Sigh. I'm just pissed I have to buy a $200 handheld just for two to three games.(Or however many generations they'll put on the 3DS.)

Great thread though OP. I will watch it.

I liked having the lead pokemon follow me too, made them feel more apart of the overall gaming experience. One mechanic that I really liked from HGSS was the 'run' toggle, call me lazy but I liked the fact I didn't have to hold down the B button to run

I'm guessing that Sylveon is going to be a bug type
and I doubt it but a neat idea I've heard was that the game might have a customization feature. If they ever did include something like that it'd just be a few hats or something.

When Black and White went to the 3D perspective, it made it hard to have Pokemon follow the player because that would mean creating a 3D model and animations for every single Pokemon in order for that to work. It takes up a lot of data on the game. Looks like the new game, they are no longer just sprites.

By that I hope you mean Delibird needs an evolution so that he isn't completely a waste of a team space in any given situation.

I'm hoping for a pure steel type that isn't useless, and maybe a couple of decent/durable partial ice types. Poison could do with some loving this generation too if you ask me.

I really wanan see those starter evolutions though.

Misspelling their own translations again... come on GameFreak.

Sylpheon (or Sylfeon) is pretty obviously a Flying type Eevee-lution. Its colors and styling suggests Skyla, the Flying-type gym leader, may be involved in its evolution. She has a similar scarf and butterfly barrettes.

You heard it here first; I called it.

In answer to the poll, does The Escapist really need dedicated threads to Pokemon when Smogon, Bulbapedia, and Serebii are all well known to pokefans and, through their focus, vastly superior to any single thread? meh, whatever. if you want to put in the work, go for it.

Xemnas, sorry Xerneas and Yveltal aren't that interesting... rainbowy, overdesigned messes, they are. Maybe if they can do some especially cool things other ubers can't already do (and better)but other than that, meh. More interested in what they do with the starters' evolutions (if they make the fire starter evolve into Fire/Fight again, I'm dumping it in the box right then and there. I don't care how cute Fennekin is, I already have Mienshao.) and any other "advancements" in the gameplay/story aspects.

Actually, I'd be somewhat interested if they add a fourth-stage (not an alternate) evolution to some Pokemon, perhaps the starters, to make them a little more interesting/worthwhile in competitive play. (yes. Swampert, Infernape, and Blaziken also need more powerful versions in spite of being the only OU starters.)
