i was talking about an event at disney world called Gay Days. its an event where homosexuals basicly, well, go to disney world. before i go any further let me just say i think its a great idea, i have nothing against gay people, i support them and their want for equality to straight americans. right with that out of the way lets continue. i was saying homosexuals every time i was talking about more than one gay person. after a while i just started saying "gays" it was just faster and easier to say, but some person, who isnt homosexual, got all offended. i tried to explain why i used to shortened term, it was just easier to say, but she wouldnt even listen. so i ask, is it wrong to call a group of homosexuals "gays" or even one homosexual "a gay". i personally think that it should be ok, im not trying to insult someone or demean or anything, it just easier to say.

Why the hell should it? I mean, the word originally meant "happy" so it's a compliment really.

Wasn't the term "gay" selected by homosexuals in the first place?

They selected it because it meant "happy".

Well, gay is more of an adjective though, isn't it? So shouldn't it be always "gay", regardless of number? "Gay people" maybe.

Anyway, yes, this is higly silly.

This. It was done deliberately. I think it's more the referring to a big group of people with one descriptive name that people get affronted by. Not that I'd get affronted (well, I'm not gay, I mean as an indignant observer) but I think that's what it is.

I haven't run into such a problem here in California, so I guess really it depends on where you are. I think it would be more offensive if someone said something like, "He's one of 'them'" or "Look at them coomsie, coomsahs" (which is actually a new one I've heard this week). Using 'Gay' or 'Gays' is actually more accepted, I think, since its shorter than "homosexuals" and less offending than "homo" (since its usually used as an insult, 'you're such a f*ing homo'.).

I really don't see how that girl could get so offended.

Calling a homosexual a 'gay' is like calling a Caucasian a 'white person'. That shit don't matter.
