I was in the market for a good, old PS2 game. I have never played a god of war game, and i've also been hearing good things about SotC. both have been recommended to me by friends. What do you guys think?

Not to argue against SotC, but couldn't you pick up both God of War games for really cheap by now? That way, you get two games worth of content and you don't miss out on anything.

They're both amazing, dude, but both completely different.

It's like asking what's better: Blackwater Park or Reign in Blood.

SotC is amazingly awesome, but if you plan on getting the next installment, I'd go for GoW

Would you like to fight minions protecting a gigantic boss and solve puzzles along the way?

Or would you rather skip the minions and fight a gigantic boss while solving a puzzle?

Choice A is God Of War

Choice B is Shadow of the Colossus.

Dude, it's not 2005 anymore. PS2 games are now pretty much given away with every purchase at most leading fast food restaurants.

Besides, both of 'em are fucking great games. Choosing only one is a retarded idea.

God of War is just another action game. A really good one mind you, but still. SotC is a unique experience that every gamer should try.

SotC is absolutely amazing. Only complaint would be that I kept getting lost. xb It's emotional, beautiful, and captivating.

God of War is a mindless gorefest where you swing a sharp thingy around on a very long thingy cutting up other thingies and blood flies everywhere. Entertaining, but yea... Most of the puzzles involve looking for things under rocks and backtracking because one of those rocks happens to be a pebble you stepped on three miles back.

It really depends on your taste, but SotC is at the top of my list of 'all time best games.'

Well, if you have a PS3, you can pick up the God of War collection.

If you wait a while, you might be able to get a PS3 complination of ICO and SoTC

I'm probably not the right person to ask, because I think God of War is the most overrated game series since devil may cry, but nonetheless Shadow Of The Collosus is a far superiour (albeit difficult) game than God Of war II.

Thanks for the input, guys^^. The reason I needed to choose between Shadow of the Colossus and GoW is that I have a prepaid card with only enough money for one or the other + shipping. Yeah I could go to Gamestop, but all of their Playstation 2 games are used, and damaged to the point of being unplayable (you know how gamestop is). It was really cool to hear people's thoughts, and based on the comments and the poll, I'll probably go with SotC. Thanks again and happy holidays!

this. GoW is great and worth playing but it's nothing special.

That is utter drivel.
SotC is a good game but not as exciting as GoW. If you can, get both. But SotC is probably more of a collectors item if you can find it.

Shadow of the Colossus for sure. Everyone that owns a PS2 HAS to play this game. It's absolutely brilliant.

Apples vs. Oranges, the thread!

I could debate on an intellectual level why they're both incredible games in their own right, but based off of PERSONAL TASTE*, I recommend SotC.

Most people would enjoy both, so it's really up in the air.
