Personally I voted Potato... we can all speak our opinions but this is something I'd like to see an actual legitimate study done on. Well actually I could care less about a study being done, but if I were to make an actual firm opinion on this topic I'd like to see one.

For attractiveness towards fictional characters I think there's too general ways of looking at it, literary and visually. An example for the former, I believe the last Wheel of Time book comes out today, and I think Min is damn sexy. Even though I've never actually seen her the narrative and characterization creates something I can visualize and be attracted to. And the same can be applied to visual media, like the more I played Dragon Age: Origins (finally started a game the other month) the more I started liking Lelania... which kind of pissed me off because I quickly jumped in bed with Morrigan for the lulz and now I'm stuck with the *****.

On the other side of the scale is the purely visual attractiveness, the Soul Caliber or Team Ninja specialty where the characters are designed to be titillating with little regard to story or characterization. Not much explanation is needed here obviously.

Whether or not either one is healthy or not, the latter is certainly a lot more geeky or would come with more social stigma. To play devils advocate though and getting back to what I was first talking about, Japan is king when it comes to embracing these things, but the country also has a whole whack of sexual deviations and social problems. Is it the media that does this or is it more deeply rooted social problems? Can exposure to a wide range of hentai or dating simulators when a kid is going through puberty cause him to develop socially stunting fetish's?

We don't really know either way, and I would never suggest censorship, but it's entirely possible that this could be a 'thing'.

And just for fun

Somehow over the years, finding something that's drawn sexy has become synonymous with being a sick pervert.

Being attracted to something that's drawn to be attractive is kind of a natural response.

You say that, but Aeon Flux was pretty good, in a really... really... really... weird way... the one bit that comes to mind was Aeon having a lesbian affair with her clone... O_O'

And apparently, Peter Chung's character designs were influenced by Rugrats of all things... >_> ...

Of course its fine. Its a representation of attractiveness, and when presented as a drawing, it allows the imagination to fill in the blanks with whatever is most sexy. In comic theory, you might say that a simpler interpretation of something lets you internalize an idea more and consider it as an idea, rather then as a true external object. A drawing is not just sexy, it is the idea of sexy come to life (At least, when its sexy). People have this shallow impulse constantly and in real life, and since it is aesthetically pleasing, it is fine when not taken to extremes. If you like something JUST because of the attractive girls, well, that's fine too. But you have to admit that it is just porn at that point. Nothing wrong with porn, but that is what it is.

I think this sentiment CAN be bad in certain respects. Its fine to appreciate a drawing/cartoon/model/whatever as a stylized representation of attractiveness in real life. But once you divorce yourself from real life, when that fake girl is attractive in and of itself and not as a stylized representation of reality, then you have problems. And since cartoons/drawings/whatever are so simplified and stylized, some people do fall into this trap. Its the difference between a person who is drawn towards large breasts naturally, and so enjoys women in push up bras, and that same person enjoying grotesque fetishes of breasts that are so big as to be physically debilitating. Its no longer a fun reflection of reality, its become its own beast alltogether.

The answer is obvious from my perspective; yes.

That's the thing, isn't it. Perspective. When someone seems attractive from a distance, our only sensual stimulus is visual, so really just beads of light arranged nicely. It's why we can find a photograph of a pretty lady attractive. I'd argue that having the exaggerated physical features (not just boobs) of anime or game characters can make a character easy to find aesthetically pleasing.

That, and the fact that the brain makes little distinction between imagined and actual stimuli, allows us to relate with fictional characters personally, adding to any attraction that might be.

It's all perfectly normal and healthy, so long as the conscious mind recognizes it all as fiction.

Also, my avatar. Appreciate her gorgeousness.

Yes, why wouldn't it be? It really extends to all manner of fiction, certain characters are portrayed as sexy, simple as that. I see no difference between having a thing for say...The Major from Ghost in the Shell or having a thing for Ziva David on NCIS, they are both beautiful, deadly women, the only difference between them is that one is animated and the other is portrayed by an actress on TV. Neither one of them are actually real but people still have their little crushes on both characters. Nothing wrong with it.

Resident Douchebags indeed.

You can like whatever you want as long as it doesn't hurt people.

Sexiest? God damn it I've played so many games seen so many anime... I think I'll just refrain from giving an answer because I'll end up posting a wall of text and still not even have half of it down.

Hah, no criticism, it's actually my favorite TV show. I absolutely adore its scifi surrealism and kinky, post-cyber frankentopia. It's fucking brilliant characterization of Aeon and Goodchild as mutually amoral forces of anarchy and order / instinct and intellect. I only wish there was more of it to savor.

Like everyone here is saying, there's always a limit. If you're obsessively devoted to a character to the point of not being able to function, then yes that is wrong.

The character I find most attractive is Jin from Samurai Champloo.
