Personally I voted Potato... we can all speak our opinions but this is something I'd like to see an actual legitimate study done on. Well actually I could care less about a study being done, but if I were to make an actual firm opinion on this topic I'd like to see one.
For attractiveness towards fictional characters I think there's too general ways of looking at it, literary and visually. An example for the former, I believe the last Wheel of Time book comes out today, and I think Min is damn sexy. Even though I've never actually seen her the narrative and characterization creates something I can visualize and be attracted to. And the same can be applied to visual media, like the more I played Dragon Age: Origins (finally started a game the other month) the more I started liking Lelania... which kind of pissed me off because I quickly jumped in bed with Morrigan for the lulz and now I'm stuck with the *****.
On the other side of the scale is the purely visual attractiveness, the Soul Caliber or Team Ninja specialty where the characters are designed to be titillating with little regard to story or characterization. Not much explanation is needed here obviously.
Whether or not either one is healthy or not, the latter is certainly a lot more geeky or would come with more social stigma. To play devils advocate though and getting back to what I was first talking about, Japan is king when it comes to embracing these things, but the country also has a whole whack of sexual deviations and social problems. Is it the media that does this or is it more deeply rooted social problems? Can exposure to a wide range of hentai or dating simulators when a kid is going through puberty cause him to develop socially stunting fetish's?
We don't really know either way, and I would never suggest censorship, but it's entirely possible that this could be a 'thing'.
And just for fun
