Please discuss why below. Also, if you respond to the poll, please give your age, gender, and home country, because I'd like to get an idea of the representative sample that I'm getting responses from. It's scientific! :-D

I don't do well with small talk. It makes me feel kind of awkward, but I manage to avoid it by being socially invisible.

I'm quite good with small talk once I get past the initial awkwardness.

Find it hard to begin with, but after the immense ice breaking, I can usually keep the conversation going. If I've had a few beers, then I'm the king of any kind of talk.

And, uh... I'm an 18-year old Norwegian male.

Recent events have made me rather cold.
I don't like small talk.
Seeing as you've asked...
The event is predetermined. I shall talk.

My smalltalk is usually subversive of the 'small' nature of the expression, and somewhat introspective. Such as how I believe life is what you make of it, and often something I wish I could savor. In the past two weeks, I got a decent paying job, and arranged an interview which likely will get me accepted into post secondary schooling, and Halloween Candy Day just past. The universe is so exciting.
I am 18, live in Western Canada, and enjoy Chocolate, Things with Maple Syrup, Team Fortress 2 and occasionally jaywalking.

I like it. I like being able to just spout non-sense. I think if every single thing you say has to be of massive importance to the world you have probably gone wrong somewhere.

I am thingy. A guy. With boobs. Through eating too many chips and black puddings with fried tomatoes.

Ohh and I am 33 too. That puts me in the older half of the demographic in this site. Trust me ladies and gents, there is a huge difference between 20 and 30. Your eyes will go, you will calm down and start being more tolerant of people, and you will find it easier to buy booze in pubs.

My nationality is English, northern English. Some would say British but I reckon each corner of of UK has its own identity.

I generally avoid small talk unless I already know the person I'm talking to fairly well, just because I don't quite know what to say and I'm quite prone to forget whatever they say anyways.

I do however like to say something that clumsily translates to "What's up, otherwise?" whenever there's a silence, just as a weak attempt to start some small talk just for the heck of it.

16, male. US.

I think small talk is great with people you like to talk to, not those weird people that you wish would go away but never seem to get the message. I have quite a few people in mind right now that I would just simply like to have a passing conversation.
