Since it's in Beta, probably a couple of months will pass before it's launch. The reason why they don't want to give release dates until the end of the testing, is because they want to make a bugless and balanced game. Being constrained by dead lines only gets work done faster, but not better.
Yeah!

I suspect it`ll come out in the near future , blizzard have had to milk the WOW cow now that they`ve shook hands with the devil which with blizzards "done when it`s done" approach just doesn`t help, and god only knows when we`ll get the next REAL warcraft game...

They fucked up Dark Templars into some piece of hot topic trash and I suspect they'll slaughter the interesting story because everyone with half a brain abandoned the company.

It's quite nice to have unbalanced factions sometimes; makes player skill even more relevant (in the case of the person playing the underdog...)

's quite fun thinking that it's asymetric warfare from time to time. I was upset as hell when Ensemble balanced Age of Empires III into obscurity...

Yeah they're just finishing the closed beta and getting ready to move on the open one. Soon ... very soon.

Vell, I've heard Blizzard is already working on it's new MMO project and that they plan to avoid Sony's mistake with Everquest and actually shut down WoW when they launch it so as not to compete with themselves (ie when Sony released EQ 2, they shot themselves in the foot since so many people didn't leave EQ 1, leading to lower than expected initial sales and a divided playerbase at the time they saw serious competition).

When it comes to Starcraft it's a touchy subject because it's become such a competitive game, especially overseas. If the game isn't fairly tightly balanced they will cause themselves some problems as it will always be compared unfavorably to the original and not achieve the same tournament-mania that Starcraft has achieved.

Blizzard also has to walk the minefield of policing Asian gamers who have very differant standards of what it is to play a game (this extends into things like WoW). For example when it comes to Korean gamers "Starcraft" basically comes down to mod-wars to create and command units FAR, FAR more quickly than the default interface would allow. While some Western Gamers use them, to a Western mind part of the point of playing the game competitively is to compete using the default interface. To Asians part of the point is to cheat since the other guy can always mod his game too (in theory).

So basically if they want to expand the world of competitive Starcraft they pretty much need to find a way of being able hammer Asian gamers into conformity, without alienating them. This kind of thought process probably has a lot to do with the game and it's planning as well, because Starcraft isn't just a game... it's an international phenomena.

As I have already said, I am willing to wait for a good game. But as for their games being "bugless", I have to say that that is not true. Take Warcraft III (the original and the expansion pack). The bug ran like this: I'd install the game, run it for a while, quit, try to play the game again, and I'd get a message saying "please insert disc". I bloody well knew that the disc was in there, and I bloody well knew that my computer was functioning properly. So it had to have been the game. Fortunately, I was usually able to fix this problem by uninstalling the game and reinstalling it. And none of Blizzard's patches for the game fixed this issue. So, no, Blizzard's games are far from "bugless". But "balanced", yes... I'll give them that much (at least for their RTS games).
