I was free-roaming in Saints Row IV the other day and I suddenly noticed something: Despite having bought all the sprint speed upgrades, I was hardly using super sprint at all. Instead, I was leaping and gliding everywhere, hardly even touching the ground. That's when it hit me: there are basically four ways to get around Virtual Steelport:

On-foot ground: Super-sprint, either weaving between cars or smashing them out of your way
On-foot air: Jump and glide, only touching the ground for long enough to charge another jump
Vehicle ground: Avail yourself to the wide variety of cars, tanks, bikes and monster trucks the game gives you
Vehicle air: Use a plane, helicopter, VTOL, UFO or jetbike

So, my fellow Escapists, how do you get around Steelport?

Mixing sprinting and flying.
Fuck cars basically, no reason to use them when you can super sprint everywhere.

I jumped sometimes, but only to clear obstacles (like those pesky skyscrapers, tsk). Otherwise I just ran around with tornado throwing shit everywhere.

God that game was good.

If it was 800m or more I would typically use the UFO to be really lazy, if not I'd probably superspeed/jump. It's disappointing ground vehicles were only really used when they forced you to use them.

Flying, I somehow managed to get the upgrade that reduced stamina drain when gliding early on and just flew everywhere.

It also helped immensely in cluster collecting, I would travel along and grab the ones that were along the way to my next objective.

I sprint and Glide mostly. This game feels alot more like Prototype 2 and less like a open world crime game, but i still like it. Although the superpowers negate the use of both guns and cars which means 50% of the game content goes unused outside of a few missions.

Sprinting and gliding. Sometimes I use the Screaming Eagle jet as well, but I usually make a point of maxing out stamina (and getting unlimited sprint) and getting glide really early on.

Gliding.

Sprinting was good too, but the soaring over everything (or into everything) was one of my favourite parts of the whole game.

For the most part, I used gliding. It was more useful when there were some obstacles like rivers or walls...
But I prefered sprinting around, so once I got the "running on water" skill, I started running everywhere.

I think I'll get all classy and let Walt Whitman answer for me:

Gliding o'er all, through all,
Through Nature, Time, and Space,
As a ship on the waters advancing,
The voyage of the soul--not life alone,
Death, many deaths I'll sing.

Cars. Cars are totally relevant and are the fastest and most stylish way to travel in the game. Come on, if they give you a full tutorial on how to car they are totally worth using.

[sub][sub]Actually I took every excuse to run up tall buildings and jumped really far to get practically anywhere[/sub][/sub]

Ground vehicle

I'll pimp out some sports ride. Sometimes it's faster than the low-level superpowers and there's nothing like taking a perfect handbrake turn. Max upgrade super sprint means that you're tossing and breaking everything which I don't like and very often I find myself getting blindsided by speeding projectiles I myself launched around by running -- pretty stupid.

I'd have used it more throughout the game, but the DAMN data nodules are all on top of buildings making constant super-powered travel a requirement for 100%. So, vehicle isn't my most used method, but still my favorite.

And the thread is over! G'night everyone!

(Seriously, outside of the game forcing you to drive, you'll only do it willingly for five minutes at most.)

I used my super-jumps to emulate freerunning as best as possible over rooftops. That's pretty fun.

I usually got to the top of a nearest tallest building and just glided to wherever I needed.
Kind of wish they allowed to use super sprint and jump somewhen after rescuing Gat, though.

I take every opportunity I can to take my Temptress or Kaneda bike everywhere. After a while, flying got boring. It might have taken less time, but it felt like more just going in a straight line with nothing to stop me. On a bike, I have to pay attention to the road, or risk getting knocked off. It's just more fun going 100mph against traffic than gliding above everything.

I used the Screaming Eagle once, because I felt like I needed to validate the preorder bonus (for the record, I didn't actually preorder, but I went in on release day and there were leftover preorder copies).

I used vehicles for the vehicle thefts, and when they were required in a mission.

But mostly, it was way too fun jumping around, running up buildings and gliding to Haddaway or Thin Lizzy to really feel a need to do anything else.
