Poll: Prince William and Kate Expecting Baby

Yes, it's grand news for fans of royalty everywhere, today it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20586343]. Due to the ongoing changes in succession law, whatever the gender of the child they will eventually inherit the throne of the United Kingdom and fifteen other Commonwealth realms, assuming no unexpected deaths or whatever.

So, what are the Escapist's thoughts on this? As a loyal monarchist I can't wait for the birth, I'm hoping it's a girl so I have the chance of seeing another Queen in my lifetime. My favourite potential regal names are Elizabeth III or Victoria II, and I've included a poll to vote on your favourite out of eight possible monarchical names for the future reign of this unborn child, based on recent monarchs and living royals.

Honestly could not possibly force myself to give a toss about the royal family.

They are, quite possibly, the most expensive tourist attraction we have. They serve no purpose other than being camera fodder to foreigners.

To be fair, the royals cost the taxpayer's something like 60p a year. Not too bad considering all the charity work and tourism they bring in.

OT: yeah, congratulations to them. I wonder if there are unwritten laws regarding how they name their child? I'm guessing they come to a general consensus with all the other royal types to avoid anything too outrageous.

Personally, if it's male I hope they get Anglo-Saxon on our asses and call him something like Æthelstan or Eadred. I mean its not like there's no precedent, technically they are names of English royalty

FFS, the point of ones last name is that there's a family identifier that goes with the first name, which separates people from each other.
