Well, during the last client patch (was fixed by the most recent one) steam would alter my screen resolution anytime my screensaver kicked in, the problem would go when i closed steam. Also the server browser never works right the first time i try it and can sometimes take up to 4 attempts to connect to a match in TF2. Other than that i haven't had any issues with it.
The only one I've ever had it a download randomly stopping, solved with a quick restart of Steam though. Overall, excellent service.
I had a problem starting steam on a new computer for a while, until I discovered it had to do with two conflicting sound drivers. For whatever reason, the manufacturer had two drivers intalled, so deleted the crappier one, and haven't had a problem since.
On my other machine, it's worked flawlessly.

Just the odd game not launching, where the 'Steam is preparing to launch ' message box just stays there.
Oh, and installing DirectX and Visual C++ every single time I launch a new fucking game. I end up just closing them then launching the game again, Steam seems to ignore them then.
