Tim Schafer has announced that he wants to make a sequel to Psychonauts. Is that necessary? Because if our trying to make a sequel to a fantastic game then ovivously the games expectations are going to be set pretty high, and fans will be very disappointed if the game doesn't live up to the hype.

It all depends on whether he can find a publisher for it or not, so don't get your hopes up yet.

Fact: Psychonauts, while a good game, is nevertheless also a flawed game.

Fact: Many well-known game series started with a flawed original, followed by stellar sequels that truly realized the game's potential.

Psychonauts 2 could be another Mega Man 2, Red Dead Redemption, or Final Fantasy 6/7. The prospect of such greatness such completely outweigh any fear of disappointment.

Ummm... this is news?

The end of Psychonauts more or less is a teaser for a next game. We knew he WANTED to do one. But, if there is hope for a sequel, that's news!

It should probably be great, and this time around sell a lot more. So how can this be a bad thing??

Nope, I'd rather see what new ideas he has.

And Schafer has commented on all these articles that have suddenly popped up saying he's "ready to do a Psychonauts 2" or whatever, saying that he's been saying that for the last 5 years and has no idea why everyone seems to think it's any more likely to happen now.

His more Downloadable focussed work is probably what is spurring it on. Hell maybe he has a publicist who is capitalising on a fake story to keep his name out there and draw attention to what IS happening.

Also it's not like a single sequel is suddenly going to turn him into Bungie making the exact same game 15 times over and pretending it's actually a new installment.

I would love to see an expansion of the Psychonauts universe, not to mention an end game that wasn't like running head-long into a brick wall. One can only hope that it will be as entertaining as the first. It's not like it's a major label churning out yet another sequel, Double Fine is fairly small, and it's been years since Psychonauts's original release. Seems less like a cash-in and more like a legitimate want to create another game based on an awesome pre-existing premise.

If it doesn't live up the hype: So what? That won't change how great the original is.

And a sequel to psychonauts has a higher chance than most of being really fucking awesome.

So I say this:
[HEADING=1]YES.[/HEADING]

i felt 10 mind worlds just wasnt enough. more mind worlds double fine! those were so awesome! i got one right here, a schizofrenic has a world that rapidly shifts between bright and cheery daylight to creepy nighttime. here's another, a politician with a mind where nothing is what it seems and is subject to rapid change. the boss is a journalist who tries to expose his dirt all the time, so he has to hide in a hole constantly. do it double fine! more mind worlds!

Also, I don't think a sequel could possibly live up to the first - not just because of hype, and because of how sequels generally don't, but because the first one's setting was so perfect. I'm talking about the second half of the game which took place in Thorney Towers Home for the Disturbed, and involved sorting out the mental problems of several inmates. I mean, in a game about entering peoples' minds, what possible better place to go than a fucking INSANE ASYLUM? I don't see how they could top that.

I honestly want Schafer to leave Pychonauts alone, at least for a little while. It'd be much more interesting to see what other ideas he can come up with, such as this little beauty [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105568-Tim-Schafers-Next-Game-is-About-Russian-Stacking-Dolls]. Right now, I'm not holding my breath for a sequel.

So... Gloria's mind, basically?

And also, I don't think a sequel could live up to the original, purely because of how brilliant the idea of a game focused around entering peoples' minds taking place in an insane asylum is.
