So many of you have probably heard that Notch is talking to Tim Schafer about making Psychonauts 2, or at least an interest in funding the game.

Tim just posted on his twitter http://twitter.com/#!/TimOfLegend/status/167428305803427841 that his developer of Double Fine Productions is looking to make a fan-funded adventure game.

Do you think this means a sequel to Psychonauts 2, a new Brutal Legend or other sequel, or a brand new IP?

Now this is NOT what you want the most. This is what is most likely.

Edit:So it's likely going to be a new IP as it will be a point-and-click adventure game.

Psychonauts really does deserve a sequel. And not only that, Tim Schafer said himself in 2010 that he wanted to make a sequel for it. The only problem was that it's a cult hit and all, but quite a bit of its popularity came from piracy. So even though Schafer could prove to prospective publishers that it had a numerous and eager fanbase, he couldn't prove it with the only kind of number publishers care about--profitability. But now he's got Notch, a fellow gamemaker who understands it as a gamer and a fan, rather than a suit.

So here's hoping he releases it on Steam, drastically decreasing the chances of it getting pirated so much.

"Drastically"? I laughed.

OT: I don't think he wants the fans to fund Psychonauts 2 (after all, Notch seems to be willing to do that). Furthermore, they say it would be a point and click adventure game, so Psychonauts 2 (or Brutal Legend 2 for that matter and so on) is even less likely.

Moreover, since they aren't suggesting any names, I'm inclined to believe it would be a new IP.

With that said, it's a shame I voted for Psychonauts 2 before even reading the OP.

P.S. The Q&A says they are going to release the game on Steam. TC, can you add that link to your post:

it a bit more informative.

Look, I don't dispute that, however I feel that the word "drastically" is a bit...drastic in that context. I do believe in Steam but Steam releases are getting pirated. I don't have the stats and, frankly, I don't think anybody has, but my feeling is that while they are pirated less, even perhaps significantly less, it's not "drastic" by any means.

Eh, so much splitting of hairs. Maybe it was a bit hyperbolic, but the difference is there, and I think it will make a difference. How much of a difference neither of us can say, but I think it will be quite noticeable.

Why can't I have $150000 sitting around? My Day of the Tentacle disk is scratched!

Anyways, it's definitely a new IP. All indications point to the mystery game being point-n-click.

I have no clue which is most likely. I don't think Double Fine has ever made a sequel, both due to their creativity and their knack for not doing well in terms of sales. I guess Costume Quest is something I could see them trying to do again. But is likely a new IP.

I'd much much much rather play Psychonauts 2. Brutal Legend isn't my kind of thing in many ways, and I've never heard of Iron Brigade. Costume Quest was great. It was more charming than any game has a right to be. But I don't think it would work on me twice.
