Lately I've been trying to get into better shape.
So I was working out my arms on this machine when I was reminded of the sad fact that I've never, ever done a pull up before. I've always been pretty strong, and I'm not really overweight either, but pull ups are just too darned hard for me. They're like the frost trolls of exercise.

I'm just curious to see how other escapists have fared on this incredible challenge.

years ago....I didn't do a pull up..BUT I was surprised at how long a could hold the position for...

anyway Im quite physicall weak..and female..which makes me as strong as a toothpick

EDIT: as for push ups...whenever i try to do one I get this really uncomfortable feeling in my collar bones...so I do "girl" ones..I can do a few of those

I can do a few push-ups but I can't do a single pull-up. While they both use your arm muscles, they use them in different ways.

Nope, no chance in hell I can do that, I have absolutely no strength one would think that I could since I weigh next to nothing and a 14 year old girl can carry me but nope I can't, kind of strange that I'm so weak but I can endure quite a beating, so odd you'd think I'd break at the first punch, as for push ups yeah they're pretty easy as I said I'm not really in shape at all but I can do quite a few of those, though it's possible that I'm doing them wrong.

I never do them, but I can (well I'm fairly certain I can, I used to go to the gym like a year ago and I did them then). If I tried now I could probably do 2 or 3 before my lack of upper-body strength caught up with me.

Once upon a time. I used to be quite toned but all my muscle melted off when I became a vegetarian. Before someone feels like being a shithead, it's only because I didn't supplement my diet and instead decided to subsist on caffeine.

Back when I was still a weakling I found pull-ups to be the bane of my life. Despite that, even when I couldn't get my chin all the way up, I still did it. Eventually I could do one. Then two. Then three. Then four. Then I tried a different version of pull-ups and found a new Hell to conquer.

In short, never quit. Also, doing push-ups might aid you in your endeavours.

Not sure how many I can do now, but back in high school I could do 25 or so. I had very strong upper body strength and was very very light (5'11" and weighed maybe 130lbs)

That is strangely specific :p.
It's strangely specific because it happened, it was my cousin she just wanted to show me a drawing she'd made and I told her I was too tired so she just picked me up and carried me there, I would have done something about it but I was too shocked to react I mean I thought stuff like that wouldn't happen ever since I became tall but apparently I still weigh nothing kind off odd considering I'm 1.9 meter tall (6.2 Ft) and the fact that I can eat an entire buffet, I guess I'm just magic, maybe I'm an elf and that's why I weigh nothing or something like that.

Today, I have adopted a rotund form, but before I assumed the guise of the blob, yes, I could do pull ups.

Daily. I like to be in the top 5 in terms of fitness at my unit. And considering we are an artillery unit, physical strength is a huge deal. I can tell you, the gunners do get a little upset when a truckie beats them in PT.

Back when I had more time, facilities and was training harder, I was consistently smashing out 10 with 20kg extra weight to finish a circuit. Would take a bit of work to get back to that now though.

20Kg = 44Lb for you backward imperial system lovers.

I can do pull ups, though can't reach 20 in succession.

Glad I got over my lazy phase though. Started training again.

I can usually manage between 5 and 8, admittedly it's not because I'm actually strong or fit but simply because I'm very light which means it's easier for me to lift my own weight.

Thanks to my days as an air-cadet... yes, though how many is another matter.

Probably about a dozen or so before my arms die... curse my puny limbs...

About 15 years back I could do 2-3 of them.

I doubt I could do any now. I never come across a situation where I can try them though.

I'm very into fittness, heres a good tip if you want to get better at pull ups.

NEGATIVES! Exercises generally have and up and down phase, if you can't complete the "up phase" I.E pulling yourself up, do the down phase alone I.E lowering your self as slow as you can.

Simply grab the bar nice and tight, and use your legs to jump up so your biceps are in full contraction, pause for a second to kill any momentum and lower your self back down as slow and controlled as you can.

I'm very good at pullups as I only weigh about 75 KG and I'm strong for my weight, I can do about 20 wide grip over hand pull ups which are my preffered exercise for upper back.

I'l try and get you a video of negative pull ups.

EDIT

here we go, now in the video hes doing wide grip over hand, which targets your upper back and is alot harder than underhand pull ups which your biceps assist your back to make the exercise much easier, but the negative movement is transferable to other body weight exercises.

Good luck and enjoy becoming a stud, stud.
